Anyone else interested in this topic, I found an interesting web site
on various types of boards. Here is a section
on the all around board. I personally would not get a bic board, but
the others sound interesting ..

All-Around Boards
As the name suggests, this board is designed to turn, nose-ride, and
glide. It doesn’t excel anyone one thing, rather, its design performs,
average to above average in turning, nose riding, and gliding. It
works best on days when the waves are knee to shoulder high. In these
conditions the board will turn well, will allow some nose riding and
will have decent glide. It is an excellent board choice for beginners,
and surfers of all levels who want one board to perform in a variety
of conditions.
