here's another video from sf on wsd.
since PA (db) and i were both videoing and surfing from relatively the same
area,
the shots might be the same, but then again...

i agree. i looked at yours and thought the quality and brightness were
good. your stuff from turkey day was really better, but apples to apples.
for better or worse i used some techniques that kill compressions, such as
the swish pan/tilt at the beginning during the titles. what you might have
noticed and one of my complaints with qt is that when i saved the files
originally from fcp, i would get artifacts in the quicktime export that just
didn't get better with successive compression in media cleaner 5. i've
changed the output to ntsc dv as my standard and now (imo) get better
output.

i also think, all other things being equal, that viewing it in the interface
on the surfvid site provides a more stable background. meaning that the blue
ocean background works well in presenting the mostly gray features of ob. at
least thats my opinion.
fwiw - i put up the .wmv file:

i put up the .wmv file on www.surfvid.com under the san francisco video
directory, titled: "WSD 11.30.02". saved 2.5 mb for the .wmv over the
similar rez .mov file.

hmm, battleship grey isn't a color??? :^)

btw, lp, McGrath area was a cool spot. Amazing to see so much
uncrowded area in SoCal. Rick C was there, said he knew Rick McGrath

_Wonderful_ footage, lp!...so glad there were beautiful waves for you
all on WSD! Thanks so much for posting it.

and Sully wrote:

Speaking of 'battleship grey'...that's the color of the floors
of my new place (and the walls are a faint bleak yellow). They
are classic, really wide pine floors, but are so dinged up from
200 hundred years of wear, that someone jest decided to paint
'em grey instead! I've been really trying to love it...but, I've
decided I'm gonna paint 'em off-white instead...it's just a little
too drear, for the heart of winter. I'm also trying to resist that
desire I have to paint the living room walls terra cotta red (and
the kitchen brookside moss...which looks better than it sounds...
and the bedroom, cornflower blue) it's a winter thing, I'm sure of
it! (but I may just be adventurous and do it anyway...if so, whoever
visits my abode may need to wear shades!).

Speaking of grey skies in NorCali...the one time I ever
went there, I had the best time. I stayed in Monterey &
I loved being at the sea there...with the fog, salty air
and seals and sounds of seabirds. It was wonderful.

There's this CD by Van Dyke Parks called 'Orange Crate Art'*
...and almost every song on it, is about NorCali. A couple of
folks told me the lyrics in it are reminiscent of John Steinbeck's
descriptions of the region. All I know is, listening to it made me
want to visit Northern California again (just as you all's stoking
a.s videos & posts do!). Truly, sounds like a beautiful place to
be and to surf.

Thanks again, LP! Thank You Team NorCali A.S for all the great videos,
pictures, reports and stoke from there!

Most Rippingly Righteous Surfing Weekend to All!!

Sincerely (and rambling on again...but hey!
it _is_ TGIF, after all!),

Dee Dee, I'm a big fan of color in a house. My walls are sort of a dark
peach (and the kid's room is an ocean blue) but I'm considering painting two
of the walls in the living room a much darker peach, sort of a terra cotta.
Bear occasionally rubs along those walls, and they get dirty too quickly.
My old house had one dark green wall, to set off the painting that was
there.

Hi Jane!

Your house sounds wonderful. That's great the way you paint some walls
in the same room a different hue or color. I wish I could beam you up to
my hood to guide me along with my painting project! A couple of days
after I posted about that, I went to my cousin's house for the first
time in six months. Last time I was there, the color of the house was
beige....now it is a color called 'exotic red' (a color that transcends
the word 'cheery'!)...with olive green trim (just in time for Xmas!).
When I asked them about it, they said that the house colors in their
town were just to 'blah'. I tell you, there must be something in the
air! Your post & seeing their house has convinced me to take that plunge
into color. I'll keep you posted!

Now here's a nice OT topic. Me too.
I have been going with variations of studio and artic white for years
(except when I get stuck with landlord hideous off off white). Been meaning
to do the bedroom in some sort of oceany blue/blue green for the past few
years. Now painting has moved up the list of priorities. The front studio
work room is still white, but going to go for color in the bedroom,
bathroom, living room and kitchen. I usually prefer the cooler colors in
shades of blue, a nice underwater den...will see what I end up with. May
have to surrender to something on the warmer side for bathroom and
kitchen...gotta get this going in the next few months.

All I know is, that I want to tell you how very good it always is to
hear you, Tube and _every_ member of TBK at alt.surfing!! I _always_
listen to what you all say (and when I can, I even gladly change my
