Rubber meltdown?

Anyone hsave any ideas about halting rubber meltdown, where your
rubber squid lid melts and smears onto your face? I have two hoods
that are doing this, and suspect sunblock as the catalyst for the
rubber breakdown....not sure how to use this forum now...my email

Sorry. There have only been a couple of meltdowns this year so our
collective knowledge base is rapidly declining.

Check the ingredients of your selected sunblock - any petro products
will break down the neoprene/wetsuit rubbers. Sounds like you have a
rather bad case of it - could be some other chemicals. Try another
sunscreen?

Thanks, but the sunscreen (Headhunter) doesn't have petro-products.
Even just my natural face oils cause the rubber to deposit on my skin,
so I'm looking for a way to stop this disintegration, as they are good
hoods.

I see one source, on another but similar subject, that says rinsing
the oils off will control them.

I would have suspected your sunblock. But, since you state
there's no petrochemicals in it, there must be another cause.
Do you leave the hoods out in direct sunlight for long periods?
UV will break down neoprene.
I've had a few suits where the neck area disintegrated in the
way you describe. Never seen a hood do that.
