I agree its not for everyone, but it is pretty easy as long as you have a
man that can (or a woman!) and a phone.
Every town has a mobility dealer that you can order parts from and a machine
shop / powder coater etc. Failing that the internet has loads...
Just in the process of going to the local college to make a narrower
redesigned battery tray with built in motor mountings etc... So I can fit
wider wheels and turn the batteries around the other way to make room. They
have all the welding and other gear (and metal) I need! I just scroung
everything... I decided that since I pay tax I should be able to make use of
their services and workshops! So far nobody has stopped me and this has been
going on years.
