fasting TSH?

Hi,

In 7 years on Synthroid, I've never to been told to having a "fasting" TSH.
Now on the lab form, the doctor has written a note that I need to have a
fasting TSH in 3 months. Anyone know how the results would be any different
than the usual test. I know it's common to fast for a cholesterol test, but
I'm interested to know if any of you fast for a TSH....

This just eliminates any chance of something you've eaten or drank
interfering with the results. They want to see what the body is doing with
as few variables as possible. They did this to me several times, once to
also run my fasting blood sugar levels.

There must be something else being tested at the same time or another reason
for "fasting". TSH is sensitive to time of day, but not to dietary factors.
If it is just TSH (why, by the way? since a measure of esp fT4 is far superior
in thyroid testing land) rather than "fasting", a better guide would have been
to suggest that you get the TSH test done always at the same time of day, and
under the same conditions (such as BEFORE you take any thyroid hormones for
the day) so that you are comparing apples with apples from test to test.
Perhaps this was simply his way of saying that without actually saying it(??).
