Congratulations on you decision to quit smoking. It sounds as if you've had
trouble quitting in the past, and I believe you have found a valuable quit aid
here at AS3 -but you have to use it. I found that quitting smoking changed
*everything* about my life. I had a thousand plus "reasons" to smoke every
day, and I neeeded something to counter those reasons. AS3 provided that
counter. Here I was able to establish relationships that reinforced my quit,
to get information about quit symptoms (yes, that's normal diane - stop
worrying <g>), to support others (which also served to reinforce my quit), and
to just plain remind myself that quitting smoking is a major part of my life,
at least as important as smoking way, and that deserves to have time invested
in it.

Regardless of how often you pop in here - good luck and strength in your
quit!!!

Congratulations on setting a date. We will all be here if you need us. One
day at a time or even one hour at a time. Whatever works.

When I quit I hit walls and cursed at my addiction. Then I'd come online
and rant and rave. I've never found a group of people so understanding,
online or in life. Not only that, but they were expecting it! Between
humor and kindness it's a really supportive community. But you've been here
before, so you know that. :)

It's great news that you're quitting again! We'll be waiting for ya.

Hello Eddie - so pleased to see you here. This is a great place to be and
I'm convinced it's the best quit aid of them all - well, it has been for me.
The other thing I think of quite frequently is that every quit is different
and I find this very encouraging. I'm sure the difference was finding this
place and because you have too and because you are an Official Man of the
New Millennium I'm sure you will be highly successful.

Susan
Fred says - yeah - looking forward to hearing more from that Eddie - perhaps
he'll rant a bit - that's always exciting, when people rant:- Three weeks,
six days, 21 hours, 50 minutes and 29 seconds. 697 cigarettes not smoked,
saving £48.14. Life saved: 2 days, 10 hours, 5 minutes.

Why, Thank You Susan ! And you too Fred ! Ok, so I'm on my second patch,
and I haven't done my Spiderman impression yet (climbing the walls, etc,
...shh.). I haven't gotten upset at anyone yet except for the two gits who
bumped into me on the Metro (subway or tube to those of you who are
non-Quebecers) this morning. The one side effect so far is that I was
unable to get to sleep before 4 this morning, despite playing every word
game I could to lull myself into lullaby land. However, every cloud has a
platinum lining: After 13 years of my two Siamese cats waking me up
faithfully every night at 1 and 3 o'clock respectively, I was able to return
the favour last night with malicious glee. I left them blissfully
bleary-eyed and totally teed-off this morning. So you can see, there are
LOTS of ways that quitting smoking can add value to your life !

1 Day, 38 minutes, 37 seconds. 30 cigarettes not smoked, saving $5.86 CDN.
Life saved: mine.

I used the patches but stuck with the Nicoderm all the way through. I'm
not sure why you would want to switch from one brand to another. It's
probably best to pick one and stick with it. Personally, I prefered the
Nicoderm because they're meant to be worn for 24 hrs. My worst time was
first thing in the morning, so I didn't trust myself to sleep without the
patch (like you do with Nicotrol). I did experience the dreams, but mostly
they were fairly entertaining and didn't seem to disrupt my sleep.

My neighbor tried both kinds of patches...Nicotrol the first quit (and
ended up starting back up after 3 mos.) and Nicoderm this time (has been
smoke-free for 8 mos.). She said she thought the Nicoderm patches worked
much better for her. If it's a matter of dosages, remember you can always
cut the patches to get the dosage you want. I did and never had a problem
with it...that is, with the Nicoderm ones.

Anyway, just take it one day at a time and really be assured that
eventually it does get better and you do quit obsessing about smoking. You
can do it!
