I got out yesterday on the bike after a few weeks of hit and miss
riding.

The bike's odometer now reads 550 Km's so far this year (on it --
there's likely close to 100 Kms on the old bike too).

Yesterday's ride was 50 Km, in 2 hours and 8 mins of riding at an
average speed of 23.6 Km/h (14.6 mph) burning approx 1,500 calories
(dinner was BBQ'd chicken legs with roasted potatoes and steamed
veggies).

The fun part was the bright yellow birdies pacing me down the path at
the start, the pheasant that popped out from the woods on my left,
landed directly in front me so that I had to brake hard, then flew off
squawking into the woods on my right. The best part was a baby deer
(doh!), a total 'Bambi' moment as it stopped in it's tracks in front
of me then turned and ran along in front of me for about 40 yards
before jumping off into the woods. Way. Too. Cute. And finally a
small red fox enjoying some shade on the side of the road before
scurrying into some long grass.

A really fun ride.

Cheers!

Geez, that makes me wish I could still ride my bike. Because of my
health, my balance has gone kerflooey and bike riding is no longer on my
agenda. My replica 1956 white walled Raleigh, is sitting in my
neighbours garage gathering dust. I suppose I should give it to someone
who can still ride.

I've gained 10 pounds since I quit smoking and can't seem to shake it
off. I bought myself an apartment sized elliptical trainer and I do
hand weights and physical therapy style aerobics.

I'd happily trade the lot for a bike ride in the country. :-)

I gained more than 20 pounds, and I had never, ever had a problem with
gaining weight when I smoked.

I mentioned this before, but what I found most helpful was moving
toward a raw diet. If you can get above 50 percent raw stuff, you will
notice a difference. It doesn't have to be vegan either. Salads count,
but so do sashimi and beef carpaccio, although the vegans will whine
about what I just said. And you know what? You could subsist just fine
LIVING on salad.

Worried about protein? Toss on some bean sprouts and a little cheese,
stuff your mouth and shut up!

Marv, are you sure this wasn't a badger? I hear the Canadian badgers
enjoy painting themselves red and lying in the shade by the side of
roads?????

Of course, I can't vouch for the reliability of my sources.....

Great to see you back riding Marv! I did a lot of riding this weekend
and expect to continue to ride more this week as we seem to finally
have figured out how to have a dry day for once!
