For me, the best thing is smelling good. It's a ritual each day of my quit
(6 days so far): first, a shower with my smell good soaps (today: escape),
then top to bottom lotion with my smell good body cream (today: honeyed
almond), finally a light touch of a perfume (today: escape).

Damn, I smell good! haha! And the best part is I smell good ALL DAY LONG!! I
love that part. It's the best thing, for me, about not smoking. I also enjoy
noticing (somewhat smugly) how much smokers STINK!

What's your favorite thing about being not smoking?

That one's easy... feeling good! Covers a lot of ground doesn't it... ;)

Six months, one week, 21 hours, 53 minutes and 20 seconds. 5757 cigarettes
not smoked, saving $1,007.76.

I don't cough anymore.
I don't hack up a bunch of stuff before I go to work.
I have more money.
I really feel good about quitting on my first try, but some of the
credit must go to my doctor, who scared the crap out of me.

There are more reasons. Why didn't I do this earlier. It wasn't that
hard. Things get better day to day.

Regards, Bill

I can breathe! I can ride my bike, walk a few miles with the dogs,
whatever and I can breathe :)

An amazing thing.

Not quite my favorite thing, but the one that I'll share with the whole
world is maybe a bit odd, maybe a bit... I dunno.. ...egotistical???

When I'm sitting in traffic or meet a car on the road, and notice the
other driver smoking or lighting up, as I gnaw on my toothpick, I feel
... smugly superior! "Hey, I used to do that. For almost 40 years, I
did that. Boy, am I glad I don't do that anymore! Wow, was I real
dumb for a real long time. Someday, _you'll_ learn!"

(19 days, five hours, and 17 minutes without a ciggie... and yes, it
still hurts, and I still want one, but not as bad, and not as often, and
not for as long. Dinking lots of water. Too much time, pain, and
suffering invested in quitting o blow it now, and too many good things
going on in my life.)

Jim, just your basic redneck from hell....

But I *like* smoked meat. Hmmm, I wonder if tobacco has ever been
used as a flavoring...

<runs to search engine>

Nope, apparently not, though I only searched a few pages...

I did find the following, however. Sounds yummy, kinda, don't it?

Mike DOF+

http://www.recipegoldmine.com/veg/veg178.html

TOBACCO ONIONS

After they are cooked, they look like shredded tobacco.

5 C. peanut or other light oil
2 large yellow or sweet onions,
peeled and sliced very, very thin
1 C. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Heat oil to 350°F on a food thermometer in a deep saucepan over medium
heat. Combine remaining ingredients in a medium-size bowl and
carefully toss to coat onions. Remove onions from flour mixture,
shaking to remove excess. Fry a few slices at a time for about 10
minutes or until crisp and golden brown. Repeat until all onions are
fried. Drain on paper towel.

I feel better by not smoking because...

I had a really shitty week. I had no inclination to smoke except for today.
One craving in One crappy week.

Know what? I don't see that as a bad thing. Back In The Day I would have
upped my smoking to 2 -2.5 packs in response to the week I have had.

This week? Not One smoked.

I'm actually proud of myself.

Used to be when I smoked things would get very stressful at work and I would
experience a lot of anxiety. All the anxiety I attributed to the stress.

About 3 months after I quit smoking I noticed even though things could still
get really stressful, I would feel stressed, and I was trying to cope
without cigarettes, I noticed that I was not experiencing the same severity
of anxiety like I had before I quit.

I really believe that most of the anxiety was due to smoking. At work I
was in a constant nicotine withdrawl, even though I took lots of smoke
breaks. I always thought that smoking relaxed me. I have never been more
relaxed than I am now. Getting that shit out of my system was extraordinary
for my mental health.

This was one of the most wonderful things for me about quitting.

Ahhhhh, same here Heidi!! That has always been the most immediate
benefit, and I still take a lot of joy in layering the scents...

My most fave thing is feeling free. Going shopping and not having to
take a break, or at the movies, or at a kid's program/sports activity,
or at a potluck dinner, or... anything like that. It's awesome to be
free!

With hope and heart,
Kathleen

Yeah, me too. This will always seem the best benefit to me because it's
just so life-changingly huge, and it's not about some intangible "maybe"
that hung in my future, like the possibility of cancer. It's about the real
and enormous enhancement to the quality of the life I lead today and every
day.

We were slaves, and now we're free. I am so grateful for this.

hugs,

I can't really pin it down to one specific thing; so much has changed
for the better. If I had to pick one thing today, it would be the way I
feel in the morning when I wake up. You know, not being in a condition
where your body screams for its first daily fix. Waking up without that
hazy feeling that a smoke would "fix". I still love that feeling and I
get to feel it each and every morning.
