Hi,

A question for those of you who started taking Zyban after some time into
their quit, and took it for more than a few weeks then stopped it:

* how did you feel while taking it?

* after you stopped it, did you revert to how you were before you took it,
or did you get to 'keep' some or a lot of the improvement?

Cheers
David

I started three months into a quit, and continued to take Zyban for
six months. I felt considerably better about 10 days after I started
taking it. The cravings were tolerable, the insomnia improved, and the
brain fog was mostly alleviated.

I kept most of the improvement. Had minor problems getting quality
sleep, and felt spaced out, but nothing like the problems I had when I
started taking it. I tried to fix the residual problems with
nutrition, which seems to be working pretty well.

I couldn't really tell if it helped or not but I didn't want to try it
without it. I tried everything.
What happened, for me with both Zyban and the patch, is that I *naturally*
gradually quit taking it, without any conscious decision or any planning of
my own. I really felt like my body just 'forgot' to remind me to take it.
And yes, I never noticed any difference.
With hope and heart,
Kathleen

This is what's sort of interesting. You tried this various stuff and
you succeeded, But of course, there's no way to tell how miserable and
unsuccessful you might have been doing it cold turkey with no quitting
medication or other aids.

But my guess is that one or two things you tried helped get you
through withdrawal without excessive misery -- and if a few other
things you tried did nothing, well, who cares?

I tried cold turkey the first time I quit. I went 5 weeks then crashed and
burned. After that I would go a few days, a week then smoke, and it went on
for nearly 2 years. Finally I decided I would use everything at my
disposal - patches, gum, and Zyban. That was the "magic combination" for
me.

I am in 12 step recovery and hate hate hate to take pills, and medicinal
"aid" and was scared as hell I would get "hooked" but it was so funny. I
just started to 'forget" to put on the patch or take the pill... then every
2nd or 3rd day I would remember and use it, until it was just silly to keep
on taking them. I probably still have an "emergency" piece of gum in the
car - very old by now after 7 years.

With hope and heart,
Kathleen

That long? Maybe it's time to trade in the car!

These products have done nothing for me, personally. So during the
time I was on them vs. after I quit, no change.

I did 2 months ago and I was trying to remember if that piece of gum made it
to the new car - I think I finally trashed it.
I generally drive my cars into the ground though. This one is an '08 and I
hope I get to drive it for 10 years. It's so nice to be able to skip a few
years without a car payment.
