I've poked around this group some. Reading the posts has helped.
I've been smoking 1-2 packs a day for 25 years.
Quit for four days once with the patch.
Got down to 4-5 a day with Welbutrin once.
Started taking Chantix about a month ago.
After one week, I was under a pack a day.
After two weeks, I was around 10-15 a day.
At the two week mark I could tell it was all mental.
I spent that third week at around 4,5 or 6 a day.
This Monday morning I did my usual "let's see how long I can postpone
the first one."
Next thing I knew I was 4 hours without a cig.
I hadn't been that long awake without a cigarette in probably 10
years.
I didn't want to lose those four hours.
So, I'm still postponing.
What about 80 something hours later.
I kept carrying around my third of a pack 'till this morning.
I left it at home today.
Pretty amazing...
I'm not telling anyone 'till I get past that 4th day.
I just can't believe this isn't just a tease.

Good for you. You've taken the steps that were best for you. Keep up
the quit. You won't be sorry.

EXACTLY how I stopped smoking - just postponing that "next one". That
was over five years ago!

One day/hour/week (delete as per your needs) at a time.

Best Wishes - Oh, and welcome to the Nuthouse :)

You can do it David! Believe in yourself, read the FAQ, read the posts
here! Everybody here had to start with the first day, no one jumped to
OFness overnight!

I guess It's not 80 something hours, it's more like 50 something.

80-something, 50-something, it doesn't matter.
The important thing is: You're not smoking.
Keep it up. Just don't put one in your mouth. Don't do it.

The first few days are tough, but after that smobriety starts becoming
its own reward. Plus the wonderful sense of accomplishment. Really.

I NEVER thought I would be able to quit. Never. I'm so proud of
myself, and I want YOU to be proud of yourself too.

Please keep reading and posting. We are here to help.

Welcome to AS3, David. I used Chantix this time around for my quit
and I found that it really did kill the urges to smoke so that I only
got triggers which are easy enough to figure out and just say NOOOO
to! Do read and post here as much as you need as you will find the
support here. Go to www.quitbuddies.org and read the FAQs there as
they cover a lot of information about getting smober.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Thread here somewhere with folks coming off Chantix? I really feel
like that will be an issue too.

Oh dvd what an inspiring story! I am so proud of you! And I really
mean that - around here we are blood brothers and when we say we are
proud, we mean it! What a thrilling start! Now, keep reading, keep
writing, keep letting us know how it is. If you screw up, come here
and write about it. If you stay clean stay here and write about it.
This group is the place for company and comfort and solace, not a
cigarette. xo Stephanie

Eight months, four weeks, 5 hours, 29 minutes and 35 seconds ago I
made a Decision. That Decision means I have not smoked 2702
cigarettes, saving $1,013.20, not to mention 1 week, 2 days, 9 hours,
10 minutes of my Life.

Start believing it's not a tease and it won't be. You've already
proved to yourself that you can postpone that next one. That's all
you have to do. Just never smoke the next one.

What helped me early in my quit was telling everyone, I mean
**everyone**, that I'd quit smoking. I didn't have to tell my
immediate family, they were well acquainted with my moaning and
groaning, but they were supportive. I told friends, neighbors,
strangers, anyone who'd stop long enough to hear me. I chatted with
people in line at the grocery. I told total strangers that came into
where I work.

Blabbing to everyone was one way to reinforce my quit to myself. That,
and I didn't want to ever have to face so many people to tell them I'd
failed.

Failure was not an option. Make it so for yourself.

Welcome to AS3. You've made the best decision you'll ever make.
Period.

That may be an issue, but only if you let it be. Never look forward
to the negative, but look forward to all the positives you'll be
learning about and feeling.

You won't stink anymore, you can smell stuff!

You can enjoy a leisurely meal without checking your watch every 5
minutes.

You can wait to board an airplane without mentally figuring out how
many hours before you can smoke again!

You can head home really late and never have to count the number of
stink sticks left and wondering if you can make them stretch til
tomorrow morning.

The short-term negatives of quitting are SO minor compared to the
magnificent rewards you'll enjoy for the rest of your life.

Always remember the glass is half full.

Thanks for the link Steph.
I figure I'm at about 70hours?
I appreciate all the responses.
I'm gonna keep it quiet except a few trusted folks 'cause I don't want
the hysteria (yet).
Being at work everyday, away from the wife and kids has helped a
bunch.
They haven't even noticed yet.
The wife doesn't even know I've been taking Chantix and hasn't said
anything about the decrease in smoking.
