Hi my name is Arlene ...or Booger Gizzardhiney..I have not quit smoking yet
but would like to. What I need to know is HOW did you all do it?? I'm scared
to stop doing something I've done for over half my life, it's like a big
part of my life. Also it will be hard because my husband also smokes and
doesn't seem in a hurry to give it up! I've been eavesdropping in this
newsroom for about a week now and really enjoy reading all the positive
things you say to each other and I would like to say CONGRATS!!! to all of
you who have quit and stuck to it! I truly admire you all.

Arlene Brooks

Hi Arlene, I quit using the patch this time.  I have quit other times cold turkey, with Zyban, etc.  I think the patch worked best for me.  Everyone has to pick there own way.  The thing we all seem to agree on is that it's hard and to get through it you need to read, post, and most of all don't quit quitting.

I dont know if you saw my posts, 28th Feb and 1st March.  I felt very much
like you.  I really wantd to give up but I was terrified.  I didnt know how
I would manage without smoking.  I had 1 slip (posting called confession).
It has been hard I would be lying if I said it wasnt, but it is so worth it.
It does get better and easier.  :)
The group has really helped me with messages of support, hearing their
stories and being there for everyone.
Do what I did "take the plunge".  Remember we are all here.

GOOD LUCK

Aus Wendy

Hi Arlene <or Booger lol> welcome to AS3, pull up a chair and make yourself
comfortable. We all quit by different methods....cold turkey, gum, patches,
inhalators, zyban, hypnotism, acupuncture, standin' on our head in the
corner singing silly songs, stapling chickens to our forehead, drinking
vinegar, you name it most of us have tried it lol. But the one biggest thing
we have in common is that we *want* to quit :) not we need to, we ought to,
or we should but we *want* to  and we also want to do it for ourselves :)

This is a wonderful place for support and encouragement Booger and I hope
you'll take the plunge into smokefreedom soon :) It's not going to be an
easy ride, the water does get choppy from time to time but we'll all help
you as much as we can. It won't be easy as you live with a smoker but others
here have done it and they'll give you lots of advice :)

Hi Arlene:

The important things for quitting seem to be patience and determination.
Spend time thinking about all the reasons you want to quit.  Then search to
web for sites that will give you more reasons.  When you start to feel angry
at the cigarettes and anxious to be free of your addiction, you are ready to
set a date.  Good luck!
