Have been saying for years if I ever was going to quit it was going to
be before my 35th birthday. Somewhere around my 34th b-day I
kept on thinking:'why wait? Why not stop now?" And so I did,
prepared myself by filling in the lists in the Zyban leaflet (<-- is it
a leaflet?) and ready to take on the demon.
Gave the beast a fair chance I did, walking up to him with just a CT
sandwich. Faced him head on and quit. Ok, after a full day not smoking
I gave in and smoked again. Still had a full pouch in the house and decided
to give myself till the end of the pack to better prepare myself for what
was
coming.
Even though I gave in, the idea of not smoking anymore was sinking in. Like
many of you here, I was the kind of smoker that still smoked when I was
sick.
When my lungs hurt as hell and breathing was near impossible I'd still try
to
smoke. One day I found myself sitting outside an acupuncturist smoking the
second after I walked out. (with the small 'dart-needles' still in my ear)
A few days later my tobacco was gone and I quit. Didn't tell anyone I quit
and
in the first week I did have two b-day parties I had to go to. No-one even
noticed I quit smoking while I normally lit one with the other. Not even
one!
Not even the 'anti smoke lobby' that had been telling me for years I needed
to quit.
After two weeks I bought some apple pie and ice-cream and went to my mum.
When they asked me what the occasion was I told them I hadn't been smoking
for two weeks and I wanted to celebrate. Mind you, my quit was 2 sept and I
found you guys oct 9th. (after a run in with a net cop making a fuzz about
top-posting a few days into my quit)
My quit is going fine and I guess I got lucky and was offered a golden quit
when
I took on the challenge. Don't get me wrong, am not saying this is easy
though but
for someone that has been smoking most his life the craves are manageable.
The
'brain fog' however is killing me. Have been severely depressed for over the
last
twenty years of my life and it feels like my depression had itself a little
baby. Don't
fancy taking medication to much myself, but if this fog doesn't clear up a
bit soon I
am going to look into having it chemically altered.
One thing I'd like to share with you people still reading is: A few weeks
into my quit
my demon visited me in my sleep and made me believe I smoked and went out to
buy
another pouch full of tobacco. I dreamed I was thinking that after I
finished the pouch
I was going to restart my meter again. Hehe, was totally in shock when I
woke up I tell
you. Felt violated to the max, making me dream about smoking and how easy I
would
give up my quit when he couldn't win the battle during the daytime. What the
teeth staining,
dickshrinking lunge wrecking bastard demon with his bad breath accomplished
was just
making me more determined to try and never ever to smoke again.
Want to say thank you guys for being there and fighting the same battle.
Thanks for sharing
and for listening, for your jokes and rants and blatant meter posts. For
coming in to celebrate
your D's and W's And M's. Special thanks for the Y's still hanging here and
showing noobs the
way. And thanks for letting me 'top post' when ever I friggin' feel like it.

Topposting takes away the need to scroll down a conversation you already
read
fifty times or more to read a new entry. Mostly frowned upon by people
suffering
from short term memory loss, lol.
/loves can's of worms!!! lol

I had six (count 'em) cigarettes in my dreams last night, and I felt so mad
with myself both in my dream and when I woke up. It took a second or two
after waking before I realised that there are no cigs in my house and it was
a dream, and then I was really proud of myself for just getting through a
day. In an odd way, it gave me a boost.
Congratulations and I hope your depression eases soon.

I asked the same question earlier today....If you read a bit more, you
should find the thread, if not, I'll send it to ya (it's where you post your
reply above the original post)...seems most people don't care about top
posting here, and if they do they aren't saying anything....

Happy QOF, Robin :) :) :)
And wonderful ramblings ;)
As for your "brain fog," I'm thinking it shouldn't be so severe (if present at
all) after 3 months. Maybe consider getting yourself looked at sooner than
you'd planned?
Take care of yourself.
And ***congratulations***!
