How do you know?

This is to anyone still out there that feels like posting!

How do you know what to call your step-child? Do you introduce him as
Stepson? Or this is my son? My husband said you say son, but will that not
offend him and his mother I say? Hubby does not care about "her", he says.
This really does not apply now anyway because step-son has moved out and is
living his life. I just felt like I was overstepping or something to say
son.

But really, what do you do in a situation like that?
