I have some real bad SA....Probably worse than most people here, but I
do take some klonopin to help me out. Still, my social skills are
like a 10 year old and I'm 30. Also, I live out in the middle of
nowhere with my parents, but I finally got my drivers license back
after having it revoked for the past 7 years.....So I guess what I was
thinking was I could drive to these CBT group meetings in Phoenix
which is ~100 miles from where I live...

The most I could do is drive up and back twice a week and that's
really pushing it if it doesn't really work that well.
Any advice would help me.

I did a couple of weeks of CBT outpatient.
It will get you by and you will learn some new coping skills.
It's a little on the "model" side and semantic problems develop.
The group discussions were well-moderated and everyone got a lot of
support.

Long term, the thing that worked for me was a good Gestalt therapist.
She never told me what to do or how to do it.
She just asks me questions and the best answer for me comes from me.

Give CBT a go if that's what's available.

I have really bad SA too, but I cant find a group in Toronto that is
following Dr. Richards program.

I think if you did the like 14 cognative lessons strictly, then the 6
or so behavior lessons should really help.

Youre lucky being that close to the institute.

Good Luck!

This SA is like the worst thing, next to cancer, or psychosis.
benzos like Klonopin are the only meds that help, but like all benzos
they can cause profound dependance, especially with daily use. I'd
suggest that anybody use any benzo _as needed_ only, not daily, unless
you have other issues like seizures or something like that.

If youre on daily use, sometimes the benzo can cause anxiety, it does
for me. I am tapering my dose _very slowly_, so I don't get withdrawl
simtoms.

The benzos really work best as needed in extreme SA situations, I use
a high dose, but now that I use it daily, it doesnt work as well in
high anxiety situations, and my gad is worse too.

When I used it as needed only it worked so much better, hopefully I
can get back to that functional level again.

Anybody looking for the right way to taper, google 'benzo detox
recovery'

I think the link is http://www.benzodetoxrecovery.com

It's the one run by Jana Hill, if you see posts from Jana, you know
your in the right place.

Sory I should got the link before I started this post, if I try and
get it now, i might lose this post.
