I have had P for the last 4 years. I have tried almost all forms of creams
, Lotions you name it I have tried it. Until I spent 3 Weeks on Holiday in
Greece where I spent all My time in the Sea and in the SUN. This over the
weeks cleared the P up. But as normal it returned in Vengeance.
Over the past 3 months I have started getting PUVA treatment ( Ultra Violet
Light A ) this has done wonders for my skin suddenly I can wear shorts,
and visit local swimming baths without the feeling that every one is
watching. This Treatment has been extremely effective. I have not had the
treatment for 2 months know and only know is P reoccuring on me. But it
seems to have cleared some areas up and nothing is returning to these
areas.
Has any one else had any results with PUVA ?

Hi, Derek!
Are you using oral or a bath solution of psoralens (PUVA = Psoralen +
UVA)? I have used both, in fact with more luck with the bath PUVA. I had
quite a lot of side effects from oral psoralens, including raised liver
function tests. I have used PUVA with lots of luck in combination with
anthralin. Have you discussed maintenance treatments with your
dermatologist, to keep it from popping back soon?

Hi, Kim!
That was a new one... I have heard about many people using a
potent/extra potent steroid once daily and Dovonex once daily, but never
to apply both at the same time. The great thing about combining Dovonex
with steroids, is that while Dovonex doesn't do much with the redness
initially, the steroids do. And, many get a terrible itch from Dovonex,
and steroids relieve itching... So, it is a good combo :-)...

New to site (relatively) and just read your post. Just curious as
to how long you have done PUVA. I did PUVA for three years
(one year w/oral psoralen + two years w/topical) three times a
week. I had eye checkups yearly to make sure I didn't develop
cataracts (a condition my derm said was a potential side-effect).
After my fourth eye check-up, the doctor saw something
suspicious...and after four months of various tests, he determined
I had developed narrow-angle glaucoma. [There is no history of
this disease in my family tree.] I was 43 at the time, on the young side
to develop an "older person's disease." While the doctor won't say it was
directly related to the PUVA treatments, he stopped prescribing them to me
and continued on with various topical creams & ointments.
I also did different pills; e.g., Accutane, Tegison and now Methotrexate,
all with very little results. I was told that the Metho was a "last
resort" med, but now he's said I could try Cyclosporine. I am hesitant to
go this route.
Anyway, I enjoy your posts and thank you for reading this.
