That
http://nutritiondata.self.com site looks very nice, but I'm not
sure where they're getting their ratings on inflammation. Onions
anti-inflammatory?
Because I've found they can help with blood pressure I've actually
been making my own "onion slop" not too different from yours, that I
use with salads. Mine is more like:
J's Magic Hot and Cold Salad
----------------------------
One third of a yellow onion (~6 oz)
About 4oz canned/baked beans (or similar "Bush's Grillin' Beans" my
favorite)
Teaspoon poppy seeds
Half teaspoon granulated garlic
Medium fresh tomato
--
Six ounces or so red leaf lettuce
Two ounces or so walnut pieces
Hard-boiled omega-3 egg
Garlic pickle
Your choice of salad dressing
optional: canned beets (also good for BP)
optional: TJ's crumbled feta cheese (sheep/goat)
--
Chop onions into about 1" pieces, put in covered glass dish and
microwave about 90 seconds. Drain water. Add beans, poppy seeds,
garlic, and tomato cut in wedges or as you like. Microwave another
two minutes or so - mass of tomato can slow heating. Allow to cool.
Tear lettuce into salad-size pieces, add to salad bowl. Remove shell
from egg, add egg, pickle, walnuts to salad. Add small amount of
dressing as topping will serve, optionally add beets. Pour onion/bean
mixture on top for a hot/cold salad!

The only ingredients aimed directly at psoriasis are the poppy seed,
that I have found reduces sensitivity greatly, and the egg, which
seems to reduce tendency to bleed, the omega-3 helping to balance
omega-6. The garlic may help some. I have no real MOA for any of
these other than the omega-3, just anecdotes.
I also find this extremely yummy, though a lot of that is the
typically sugary sauce on the beans.
eight+ ounces of onions and/or beets is like taking a BP pill, it
*will* lower your BP significantly, so if you don't want that, cut the
total onion/beet amount to under 6 oz.
(if you are more ambitious, instead of just nuking the onions you can
carmelize them either old-style that takes hours, or by frying gently
on a hot pan as for Philly Steak sandwiches!)
When I feel it called for, I may substitute tuna or salmon for the
feta cheese, or add small amounts of other meat.

I believe the onion/beet lowers BP by supplying NO species, roughly
the way Viagra does (Viagra drug was originally *meant* as a BP med!).
Persians often have a raw onion appetizer for about that reason! But
for that reason, I wonder why someone thinks it is an anti-oxidant, NO
is also the most oxidizing compound in the body!

ps - for more BP regulation, have half an ounce of dark chocolate (no
milk solids allowed). if you had any cheese in the salad, wait at
least an hour after the meal to eat the chocolate. chocolate
apparently lowers BP via beta blockers. chocolate also does have
anti-oxidant properties, though not major.
pps - a little cabernet sauvignon goes well with this all, and can
tide you over between the salad and the chocolate, as necessary. get
a little reservatrol the natural way!
