They have asked, and I've told them it was for my depression
when it gets bad. They know about my depression, though I've
tried not to let it affect them too badly. I've always been
there for them, whether it's a school function, to play a game
(sometimes with me in bed), or just talk. Now my older son's in
college. My younger son's 15 and has had friends with
depression, and his closest friend's mother's bipolar, refuses
to take her meds, and is completely unreliable. His poor friend
has been in 4 high schools in the past year, as her mother keeps
moving, often to different states.
I just recently talked to my younger son about hospitalization.
He already pieced together that I tend to go in when I'm
changing my meds. He's right. Sometimes for other reasons, but
almost always during med changes.
