November 11th is a partial statutory holiday in Canada. It's a day to
commemorate fallen soldiers, especially the tens of thousands of
Canadian soldiers killed in the First and Second World Wars. Although
there are essentially no active-duty WWI vets left alive, there are
still several hundred WWII vets kicking around.
It's kind of amazing that, since the country came into existence in
the 1860s, over 100,000 Canadian soldiers have died in combat even
though there have been no wars on Canadian soil.
