Are there any other humans tuned into this group? It seems a shame to
waste this great resource.

Yes, it is full of junk & I don't check very regularly. It seems a shame to
waste the space.

Did you have polio?

I am wondering if I didn't. Am having lots of problems and Drs. haven't
been much help. They've said I have fibromyalgia.
I would like to know how to go about being diagnosed - live in a small rural
town with Doctors who think if a pill or surgery won't fix you, then you
aren't "really" sick.

Thanks for your reply

Had polio - 1946.. became an engineer nasa, gm tech center, burroughs,
honeyell and owned 2 Electronic/computer repair centers, when Bingo wiped
out by post-polio. fought it from mich to florida hospitals, clinics
galore..now i wear a glove (arthritic) on right hand it hurts continuously
but pressure alleeviates some ofthe pain, both hands & feet numb / fuzzy
fingers and toes very sensitive 2 touh usually hurts 2 type (computer next 2
bed) legs, chest, face arms etc spasm constantly so i'm on a vibrating bed,
sheet, heating blanket and a heavier blanket agai pressure (and heat) seems
2 help. on multiple meds had a morphine poump in stomache had it removed
after having more problems. now on morf a muscle relaxor and pot (only when
it gets real bad) oh yeah and 2 T.e.n.s units one 4 arms one for body
trunk.. All docs have given up. me too a few years ago after a trip 2 the
post polio clinic in new jersey. very good doctor Dr Richard Bruno - very
intelligent..Writes a lot of articles on pps (well it seems a lot 2 me) i
enjoy them - and book or more on the subject too. We hit it off immediately,
he has pps, and real experience

here's a bit

April 12, 2008: ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY USA -- Today, the 52nd anniversary of
the development of the injectable polio vaccine, the International
Post-Polio Task Force (IPTF) announced National Immunization for Polio
Prevention in Infants and Toddlers - or "NIPP IT" -- WEEK, April 19-26.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear about your difficult situation.

I had polio in 1954 at age 12. Some people call it upside-down polio
where the arms are paralyzed and the legs are undamaged. I joined a
computer software company after leaving college; and have been a
software developer since.

I was really slammed 2 years ago by PPS; but I have been able to
continue working thanks to the marvel of tele-commuting. I lack the
endurance that I had previously; but compensate to some degree by
spreading my schedule over a longer day, with rest stops in between.

There is a PPS group on yahoo that claims to have over 600 members; it
is somewhat helpful; but also a bit restrictive wrt subject matter. I
think that most people don't know about Usenet because it is not the
popular medium.

This is so frustrating with all of the advances of medical science over
the past 50 years. It seems that they would have figured some of this
out.

I have Dr Bruno's book and have read parts of it. But it is a matter of
time and energy for me. I spend almost all of my time and energy on my
job.

We're not all dead yet :)

Thanks for posting. I would like to see more posts here too. I am still
looking for a diagnosis - the Drs. here think I am a hypochondriac - I have
weakness and balance problems. Have had carpal tunnel surgery and now
peripheral nueropathy in all 4 extremities. I fall down a lot and when I
have one of those jarring falls, flu-like symptoms for days. Insomnia is
the worst problem.

Have been tested for MS and Parkinson's - negative. In fact all the tests
are "in the normal range". I have stumbled on PPS from reading the Net.

My family remembers me having a child-hood illness during which I was
hospitalized right after having the polio vaccine - but those medical
records are gone - destroyed, so I can only "guess" that I possibly had
polio from the vaccine. Frustrating not to be "old" (58) and feel so old.
I am talking with a naturapathic DR. now who has me taking SAM-e and some
other supplements for chronic fatigue and am muddling by. What I've read
about the polio vaccines has made me take a second look at vaccines and is a
bit scary - maybe we all have it - from the vaccines. Dunno.

I like your sig - I am a medical cannibis supporter too.

I just dropped in while listening to Bill Gates speak to Rotary
International about the committment to eradicate polio. I'm onboard.
