After relative freedom from OCD in recent times, I cut myself on the
lid of a can of cat food, beef & liver, and am now obsessing hard over
getting Mad Cows disease from "PRIONS" from the cat food, since the
beef in cat food might not be inspected as that intended for human
consumption. Any thoughts, help, advice, etc., will be greatly
appreciated, & thanks ...

Are you having any urge to do something?

We have to die of something (eventually).

I asked because as an OCD sufferer I know that reassurance is a bad thing in general. You
have to take decisions and judge by yourself (= the best for you is to take decisions, and
judge by yourself). And even if you do some mistakes it doesn't matter.

Agree. I was trying to get perspective on a situation, which smelled
suspiciously of OCD. Otherwise I would have posted in some medical or
disease forum. Appreciate your comments and taking time to respond.

It is OCD, not normal fear. :-)

If it is the mad cow thing, do you have someone to leave your CD

I can't understand the reason of this joke of yours.

Do your parents know how much you stay on line? BillG said he doesn't let his kids stay in
front of the computer for more than 45 minutes.

Good point. My mother thinks if I spend more than 20 minutes at a time
in front of a computer, I must be obsessed. However, I've pointed out to
her that she has the TV on from 6.00 am until midnight, which in my
opinion is more of a problem, if for no other reason than she has fewer
opportunities to answer back.

I think that Zorg was trying to point out the silliness of the ideas
that OCD puts in our head and they have no basis in reality.

Or maybe I'm totally wrong ;-)

Our humour over in the UK can be a bit subtle at times :-)

Loz (who's probably read this totally wrong!!!)

Hi Loz

I can relate the OP because I have a strong death phobia and obsess
about illness probably much more than is healthy. It's a bit of a
monster. Sometimes I think it's good to attack the monster with humour.
It's the approach Mel Brooks used when he wrote Springtime For Hitler.
He has his detractors, though. :-)

That's a very good approach to take. I hope your are ok?

I think that Zorg is a troll. A characteristic of trolls is that they are trying to get
attention. I do not know if it is a medical condition. In any case trolls try to get
attention and create flame wars (and troubles in general).

Not too bad, thanks. Feeling strangely mellow this afternoon. Don't know
why that is. Maybe because I had a good sleep? Dunno.

How's yourself? Should I come over and troll the depressives with some
death jokes. :-P

Hi Mate, I'm not too bad OCDwise. Just finished my therapy at the
Maudsley and they helped me a lot although things have gone a bit pear
shaped since a relationship breakup in January. Once that's out of my
system I think I could have a fair chance of taming this ocd beast. For
the last 6 months I've actually felt like I had something of a life
which is a big improvement. Feel free to pop in to upsd we enjoy a good
laugh :-D

Do we have to pathologise every aspect of human behaviour now?
