I have these nagging, obsessive thoughts. One, for some reason, is
that I'll intentionally damage my eye by clawing it, etc. Disgusting,
I know. One that I have when I drive is that I'll purposely run over
people, or purposely swerve into oncoming traffic. And frequently
when I pick up a knife or a sharp object I have disturbing intruding
thoughts of hurting a person or an animal. I hate having that sick
stuff pop into my head and just nag and nag. It actually makes me
feel guilty sometimes, like I'm crazy. How do you go about combating
these thoughts? I've been on Prozac for years, the only thing that
ever helped at all, but I'm still having some problems, obviously.
Thanks in advance :).

OCD is an anxiety disorder. Like other anxiety disorders, often the most
effective policy is to 'feel the fear'. So maybe the way to go is not to
combat the unwelcome thoughts, but to embrace them. Not best undertaken
as a DIY thing. Better with an experienced practitioner or some sort of
supervision, whether it's a counsellor or whatever. It's very unusual
for people with OCD to act on their thoughts, but having said that,
seeking and getting reassurances can be counter-productive.

Good luck.
