"Ferritin may be a useful marker"

Jeez ..

Hyperferritinemia in a woman with systemic lupus erythematosus,
severe nephritis and an iron-rich intraspinal schwannoma mimicking
lupus myelopathy.

Clin Exp Rheumatol. 2009 Sep-Oct;27(5):834-7.

We describe a lupus flare in a 59-year-old woman who presented with
pancytopenia, nephritis, severe renal dysfunction and marked
hyperferritinemia.
The course of the disease was further complicated by an iron-laden,
intraspinal ancient schwannoma that compressed the cervical cord
mimicking a lupus-related myelopathy and was removed surgically.
Treatment with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and prednisone
induced a gradual decline in levels of serum ferritin with a
concomitant
improvement in renal function and reduction of proteinuria.
Serum ferritin may be a useful marker of the response to treatment
with
MMF in renal lupus.

A test of the absolute black and white assertions of the meat and iron
idea in this research, conclusion provided.

""Total and non-heme iron intake of BC patients were lower than those of
the controls.""

Oops, there goes the eating meat and its iron causes * ALL * disease
idea right down the crapper. Only one counter example required to pull
the plug, sounds of flushing heard.

If the idea had merit the results as above would have been exactly
oppisite.

Science weeds out the invalid ideas.

I don't hear the sound of flushing quite as loudly as you.
The Canadian boy living in his mom's basement and
espousing a vegetarian diet was noting the conditions
of an SLE patient, you came in with a commentary
about breast cancer patients. And the serum iron level
was HIGHER for the breast cancer patients, even with
them relating taking in less at time of INTERVIEWS.

And since all he does is search for the words "iron
overload", he's not likely to be able to delve into why
their serum iron levels were high, or how people with an
illness minimize personal risk items when questioned,
or why vegetarians get cancer too, or why he needs to
get out of his mom's basement and get a real job.

Not gonna make it a basis of a crusade, but I suggest
that Ironboy should be paying more attention to status
of antioxidant intake and status, and vegetarians tend
to have higher antioxidant intake. But don't tell Rusty
that, I enjoy watching him fall down the steps.
