Apparently SALT is a big no-no -- even if your husband does not have high
blood pressure. I'm not a physician, so I can't tell you why, but I have
heard this from several docs.

Best,

Paul

Dr. Mackenzie Walser's book "COPING WITH KIDNEY DISEASE, A 12 STEP
PROGRAM", is a great place to start. A lot of CKD patients consider it
their life line. It's available @ WWW.AMAZON.COM They will list new &
used prices. I have found that ordering used I still get a new book @
used price (less than $10). I was introduced to it in this forum 2 1/2
years ago & my stage 3 CKD has improved some largely due to following
Dr. Walser's plan. Your husband should be seeing a NEPHROLOGIST for his
kidney disease. Find a good one. It takes a lot of work & self
discipline to make it work. GOD bless. Ron in Fl.

Rita,
I have used the book that Ron D mentioned for over 3 years to delay
or avoid Kidney disease. It gives reasons, sample diets and so on.
The book recommends eating .3 grams per kilogram of protein per day.
That is 3/10ths of a gram. You MUST take a special supplement with
that and the book will mention that. Calwood Nutritionals or from
Gambro are the 2 places who carry a decent supplement. It is called
'Essential Amino Acids'. Calwood will know immediately waht you want
and can help with it. Gambro has a product called 'Aminess N', which
is also what you want. With the Gambro product you must take 5
tablets 3 times a day, not 3 as the package recommends. The smaller
amount is for a less intensive diet of .6 gr/Kg.

You can come here and ask any questions at all and someone will try
to help. We're not doctors, but we've been through this for a while
now.

Good Luck,
Chris

That makes sense. The reason is because salt causes people to retain
urine. Those people that have kidney problems or heart problems retain
even more urine than people that have excellent health.
