I am posting an extended reply to JOCK's thread, entitled "Sad." He
lamented a couple days ago that alt.support.jock-strap is hardly
active these days. Our NG is only a shadow of what it was in the
1990's or even as it was about five years ago.
Yeah, we have heard it the last few years ago. The jockstrap has been
in decline for a long time now. It has been taken for granted and "out
of sight" so to speak. The same could be said about athletic cups.
Yeah, guys these days wear flex cups and maybe the Nutty Buddy over a
pair of compression shorts in a jock, most likely in a contact sport
such as baseball, hockey, LAX, or boxing. But jocks and cups these
days are out of sight, a best kept secret. So I can understand JOCK's
sadness, because I feel it too.
The athletic supporter and cup until the 1970's at least were part of
a guy's uniform from boyhood on up. When I approached puberty in the
early 1960's, our PE coach told us that we all had to get a jock for
7th grade PE. Getting that very first jock and slipping it on first
time was a rite of passage, an initiation. It felt so "sweet" as it
gripped and supported my genitals. I am sure this has been the
experience of millions of males worldwide.
Wearing a jock in the early 1960's was so natural because my dad,
brothers, coach, our lifeguard, etc. worn one. As they say, keep the
faith allow, pass it on to younger generations.
Take care,
