Vitamin D3 antagonizes the effects of corticosteroids in the skin
|
| |
Glucocorticoids are known to upregulate 24hydroxylase/CYP24A1, which degrades vitamin D3, and also to depress VDR expression. This paper explains how glucocorticoids are detrimental to human skin by antagonizing the actions of vitamin D3.
Interestingly in the skin, vitamin D3 has the opposite effect on fatty... more »

Immunoglobulin production by tumors
|
| |
The paper is about a year old, but the implications are absolutely stunning. The recombination of genetic elements necessary for adaptive immunity is deeply tied into the development of certain tumors. No doubt this helps to explain tumor angiogenesis and innervation.
This might explain the carcinogenic/mutagenic properties of retinoids,... more »

The OCTN2/carnitine/PPARalpha/buty rate/HDAC system that's defective in IBD/Crohn's appears to regulate miRNA processing via HDAC1.
More on SRY and DGCR8 later.
