Hello

Well I finally had my switch on today. The audio tells me that I already
have speech recognition. We were chatting in his office so it was quiet and
easy to understand. He had is mouth covered and I was looking away from him
so I could understand most of what he said. It got better as the morning
progressed. I must say though that it sounds like Donald Duck hehe. I know
it will get better each day and I am very happy so far.

There is more mapping tomorrow and Friday.

I am not wearing my hearing aid in my other ear for a few days so I can get
used to the CI sounds.

Well done, you. That's exactly my experience. Donald Duck-ish for
the first little while, but it soon becomes just like you remember
"normal sounds" to be.

Good luck with it Rose.

I suspect that the donald duck syndrome arises where the particular
ear has not been doing much for a long time (so your brain has to work
out what to do with this new data from scratch).
In my case, voices sounded normal except rather lacking in expression.
As you will find with Donald, within 24 hours or so these initial
oddities disappear.
But you will never forget the switch-on experience.
