FOR THE RECORD:

I'm a sucker for those cheap ($15-$30) "it's not a hear aid" hearing
aids.

Bought one at Fry's the other day. Looks like one of those
hands-free mobile phone gadgets.

I couldn't make it fit securely on my ear. Holding it there it
does *nothing* for my hearing.

Like the 17 others I've tried in the last ten years.

Get a hearing aid ! (yes, I did)

Well well ! My six year old America Hears BTE aid failed,
probably the switch. It's on the way to be repaired.

In the meantime I'm using a $30 "not a hearing aid" available
on the internet called a "Turbo Ear" -- the size-of-your-big-thumb --
that clips to your shirt. To my surprise it works very well. Not as
good and convenient as the AH but it works. I have a spongy ear plug
that blocks the ear canal very well -- might be hard to find. This
minimizes feedback. ( I have the usual high-frequency loss, quite
severe.)
