Powerful personal loop systems?

I've used various personal induction loop devices such as those from
Nokia and also simple ones powered from my ipod and other devices with
a 3.5mm audio output. However I can never hear clearly with the loop
around my neck I always end up hooking it over my aids (Phonak
Clarios).

Are there small loop systems, even if they require batteries, that will
sit around the neck and provide a strong clear singnal? I don't really
like the little hooks as I do a lot of running etc and I find them a
hassle.

Playing around with some homemade neckloops, I find that nothing
appears to be more important in a loop's design than having a lot of
turns. Having many turns within the neckloop is even more effective
than having a built-in battery-powered amplifier in the loop. The
reason for this is that a small battery powered amplifier that may
boast a lot of gain, can only put out so much current before it clips.
Mutilple turns will add gain similarly without introducing clipping or
gain reduction for peaks.

For example, a neckloop with 30 turns results in about 29.5 db more
gain than a neckloop with one turn.

There are probably many sources for commercial multi-turn neckloops but
these are the only ones I was able to find:

To try it out before buying its easy to make a multiturn loop (remember
to put a resistor of about 10 ohms in series with it).

I salvaged the degaussing loop from a defunct 13-inch TV, attached a cord
and a suitable phono plug. It's a convenient size to hang around your neck
or fasten to the back of your recliner. As I remember, it had about 100
turns, more or less, of #29 wire and a resistance about 100 ohms. The
magnetic field was quite adequate (good volume) when connected to small
handheld electronic devices or the telephone. It was mono, of course, but
it could be hooked to a stereo device by feeding the right and left channels
through resistors (about 20 ohms) to one of the two leads to the loop.
Resulting audio would be mono.

I meet my current telephone needs with speaker phone and hard wired
headphones over my BTE's for TV listening, but I thought this concept might
be useful to some. Check TV repair shops for a suitable loop or a defunct
TV if you're interested in such an experiment. A loop from a larger TV
might be usefully built into a recliner, but the necessary horizontal
orientation of the loop might require some ingenuity.

The degaussing loop is a good idea.

Someone also suggested taking a multi-conductor cable (like an old 25
conductor printer cable) and connecting the mating ends shifted by one
so that it becomes a 25 turn loop (more work than the degaussing loop
though). If you only need 8 turns you can use a short network cable.

Oh yeah, Oorah. I've been waiting for his kiosk hearing aids for several
years now. You were to go into a little booth and a robot would test
your hearing and hand you a new hearing aid for $50 or so.

Sounds like a deal to me.

He hasn't posted for several years. Hope he is ok. I did a google search
and found an oorah who posted on the diabetes site frequently back then.
Same sig.

Got into a lot of trouble with his flames, though.

My grandson uses the Hatis Epic 2 which consists of a powerful coil inside a
device that looks like a thin BTE. It hooks on his ear between his head and
the hearing aid. Prior to that he used a neckloop which he also hooked over
his aids. Then I pulled the diaphragms out of a Dollar Store headset. It
worked but not powerful enough and lousy life.

I listen to his aids with a stethoscope and the Hatis is a decided
improvement. It's only problem is it costs $100.
