Does anyone know if Different couloured paper would help me to read text, my
assessor I don't think recommended any specific colour (if they were meant
to), does different colours help all dyslexics or not.

I may have to provide you with some more information on my dyslexia.

Frazer,
As far as I understand it, pastel paper helps a significant number of
dyslexics - as well as many people in general. For some, the colour is
important - often light blue, but for many the colour isn't important
- it is the fact of reducing the contrast between paper and text that
is. Glossy paper is a big no-no for many people.

Are you able to get hold of a selection of colours, and test them your
self - and find colours you feel are easiest to read for you - as well
as colours you happen to like.

It's probably best to test if you can with the same text on each sheet
- so that you don't get distracted by what you are reading.

It might be worth looking at the fonts while you are at it.

Frazer,

I have waited to offer information to you because there is a fairly
predictable outcome whenever I post...

With that said, what you will want to look into is "eye strain" issues. How
particular lighting will effect your eyes ability to decode the text. The
Irlen lens "theory" went off from this science and developed a very
expensive product. When I found out about Irlen lens, I went back further to
actually look into the science of how we see (including visual issues that
trick our eye). What I came away with is that it was worth trying different
color paper and text (including size). If you study color theory at all
there will be some information to help you figure out what colors do work
best together for ease on the eye too. With my art background I already knew
the concept for adverting and commercial work but never realized that just
for simple visual needs would also "work"...made sense to me though once the
puzzle was being put together.

For our daughter it was very bothersome to use an overlay but we needed to
see if there was an actual improvement before he headed off to the local
optical store to get lens that were just tinted into frames. There was an
unbelievable difference in not only the quality of her work but the writing
became clearer and more concise (according to the teacher...we had to rely
on the teacher for feedback on this because we knew what we were seeing at
home, but she was in school for most of the day).

Keep in mind, this may not work for you at all. But at the least switching
the paper would be worth a try if you can get this arranged.

-Pam

That is the colour that works for my daughter and I believe that was the
font too :-)
