has been a really good vacation -- first one in over a decade. most of
the times we've travelled recently have been to visit fambly of one
sort or another, or to go to a conference for work. don't really
consider that a vacation.

this time, the first week was visiting fambly. the rest of the time we
wandered around the pacific northwest.

we got to meet michaela and confuzzled and mr. paws and motley.
:) :) :)

we got to see a herd of elk and bald eagles and ospreys and a pico
(sp? -- a big fuzzy rodent) and a cascade fox and salmon climbing a
fish ladder and sturgeon and rainbow trout and slugs and hundreds of
thousands of catterpillars covering everything at one place.

we got to see some really great scenery and take hikes at mt. st.
helens and mt. ranier and and the columbia gorge and in a wildlife
preserve near where we were staying in washington.

we got to the seattle city center and saw the space needle up close but
didn't go up because the lines were too long. we saw the king tut
exhibit at the science center and played around in some of the other
exhibits too and we went to the emp museum where we saw a science fiction
exhibit and music lab where you could try out all sorts of instruments.

and we did a full day whitewater rafting trip. that was really fun and
we didn't fall off the raft. :) it was a windy day even tho it was
sunny, so it got pretty cold sometimes. for the last part of the trip,
we sat at the prow, and that was *really* cold, but pretty fun. but
then we were shivering for at least an hour after the trip. :P

we go home today. may be difficult to get back into the usual grind.
(or maybe not)

the big suitcase is now the hamper -- and it's completely full. guess
what we'll be doing tomorrow? :P

Sounds like a great vacation!

I went to Provincetown for a week last week and got a cold. Then my
niece came out and we went on a whale watch and to restaurants and
shopping. I bought her 10 dresses. Yikes! It was fun.

So very very cool!!! Ok, people of the pacific northwest: I will be in
that area starting July 25 to August 9 (sort of, we are going to make
a big triangle driving to Vancouver, Calgary and home. I forget the
exact order but the result will be that we will be on the northwest
tip of the US during this time.

If anyone wants to meet for coffee or something send me an email and
we can figure out the details.

And obviously if any of you Canadians are in either of those cities,
I'm assuming you have coffee places too. *huge grin*

Oh no! That is on our list. Should we get up really early or can we
make a reservation?

Yep, that stuff is on our list too.

Ever notice how the airlines never loose _that_ suitcase? The one with
the souvenirs, pictures, only clean pair of jeans you own, yes. But
the hamper suitcase. Nope :P

What an awesome vacation! Sounds like so much fun in a part of the
country I have always wanted to visit :) I would love the rafting,
used to tube down the smaller rapids on the Kalamazoo River years
ago, such a rush!
Totally get the "hamper" thing we always have done that as well, why
waste vacation time doing laundry!

Glad you were able to get away and have some fun and adventure.

I dunno. Laundry day while on vacation _can_ be a good thing. It's all
about timing and pre-planning. For example, drop laundry off at a
place that does it for you and go see the sites in that area for the
afternoon. Or grab a good book and something nice to drink and lounge
in the laundromat (often air conditioned) for the few hours it takes.

This works especially well if you are camping. Laundry day can be a
day in civilization if the campground doesn't have a laundry :)

we actually brought one week's clothes for two week's trip. did
laundry the last day we were at in-laws. that part wasn't vacation,
anyway.
