November 30, 1999 10th Annual New Images Exhibition: A Juried Photo
Competition for the Mid-Atlantic States. Open to Artists in the
Mid-Atlantic States of DE, MD, NY, NJ, PA, VA, WV, DC. Photography must be
a primary medium. This includes black and white photography, color
photography, xerography, digital imaging, alternative processes,
photo-based printmaking, and mixed media. Work completed within past 2

November 30, 1999 C-scape Dune Shack - A Provincetown Retreat for Art &
Healing announces its 2000 season for Artists, Writers, and the Public.
This novel program, which is a collaboration between the Provincetown
Community Compact and the Cape Cod National Seashore, offers one and three
week residencies for artists and the general public beginning April 1. A
$500 fellowship and a three-week residency will be offered to one visual
artist during the summer. A sliding rental scale of $200-400 per week,
based on ability to pay, is designed to make the dune shack experience
afforadable to all. The primitive nature of the dune shack--no electricity,
indoor plumbing, or telephone--and its physical isolation allow for
uninterrupted solitude and refuge. Interested applicants send a SASE to:

November 30, 1999 EXPRESSIONS WEST 2000, MAY 19, - JULY 1 - Deadline for
slides submissions is Feb 3, 2000. Artists from Alaska, Arizona,
California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington are invited to
submit up to 3 slides with non refundable $25 entry fee. Abstract or
representational: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, any theme. Purchase

November 30, 1999 The Gallery at Edison announces the fifth exhibit in the
American Icon Series with "Sports 2000." The show will open February 1,
2000 and run through the month. Students and faculty at colleges and
universities as well as professional artists are invited to submit entries
for consideration. Students must provide the name of the school they are
attending to recieve the student entry fee rate. Any media: two-dimensional
and three-dimensional work are eligible. Outdoor pieces will be considered.
To qualify, the piece must include the imagery of sports or athletes. Video
is also eligible. Deadline for entries is December 1, 1999. Accepted works
must be received no later than January 16, 2000. A maximum of 3 slides or
videos per artist will be considered. Slides must be labeled with title,
size, media and artist's name, printed LEGIBLY. Outside pieces mayf be
proposed through sketches and diagrams. An entry fee of $5 PER SLIDE OR
VIDEO ($3 per slide or video, for students) must accompany the submission,
along with the completed application form. Serving as juror will be Peter
Huttinger (MFA, University of Cincinnati, BFA, Florida State University). A
resident of Cincinnati, Huttinger is an experienced artist, having
participated in exhibitions at The Contemporary Arts Center, The Cincinnati
Art Museum and The Arts Consortium, worked as archivist for the Robert J.
Shiffler Foundation Collection and Archive in Greenville, Ohio, and
exhibited works at the Feature Gallery and the Drawing Center in New York
City, the 900 Gallery at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and

December 31, 1999 DOROTHEA LANGE-PAUL TAYLOR PRIZE, a $10,000 award from
the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, promotes the
collaboration between a writer and a photographer in the formative or
fieldwork stages of a documentary project. Collaborative submissions on any

January 15, 2000 The Providence Parks Department, Office of Cultural
Affairs seeks proposals for Convergence 2000, International Arts Festival,
Sept. 8 - 24, 2000. Work is installed throughout the downtown area in
parks, waterways, public plazas, on building facades, and in alleys. Work
may be existing or created for the festival. Artists who create large scale
public sculpture, film/video installation, performance art, and interactive
works are encouraged to apply. Work must be weather resistant and able to
withstand public interaction. Work is installed prior to the festival and
may remain on display for three months to one year. All proposals must be
accompanied by samples of recent work, not to exceed 20 slides (do not send
photos or original work), reviews, resume, amount requested (not to exceed
$2,000.) Proposals to fabricate new work must include an accurate budget.
Materials will not be returned without an SASE with the proper postage.

Dec 15, 1999 EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES AT A UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY provides
the university community with the opportunity to experience the work of
contemporary working artists through exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.
Local, national, and international artists are included in the exhibition
schedule. The University Art Gallery is housed in a former church built in
the late 50s, located in a central part of campus. The University Art
Gallery budget covers exhibition cards and occasional catalogues, opening
receptions, insurance for artwork, and return shipping of artwork. The
gallery takes no commission on sales, but refers interested parties to the
artist. Artists are responsible for delivering their artwork to the gallery
and providing publicity material (slides, color, or black and white prints,
artist's statement, and resume). Interested artists should send 20 slides,

Dec 15, 1999 CALL FOR LARGE-SCALE OUTDOOR SCULPTURE The Park is
approximately two miles long, containing over 50 sculptures at this time.
Work submitted must be suitable for the midwestern climate. Sculpture would
be on loan for two-to three-year periods. A stipend is available for

for Community Innovation is a high-energy, hands-on experience designed to
get your middle school students excited about science. Sponsored by the
Bayer Corporation, the National Science Foundation and the Christopher
Columbus Fellowship Foundation, in cooperation with Discover Magazine, this
competition is a perfect cross-curricular activity. Teams of four students
(grades 6-8) choose a problem within your community that they would like to
solve. The team identifies and researches the problem, come up with an
innovative solution, refine the solution . and have fun doing it! Teachers
