Jeremy, you might be surprised to learn that "dieting" doesn't mean starving
yourself. In fact, if you just simply start eating healthier (not as much
junk food, and eating smaller portions) you'll find that you'll lose weight.
Because you're young, your body will adjust to lose the weight much faster
than us old folks. LOL When I was in 8th grade (approx 13 or 14) I went
on a sensible eating diet and lost about 50 lbs within 6 months. I hardly
had to try then, where now, I have to work my butt of with the exercise to
lose a pound.
Your best bet is :
#1) seek help for the suicidal thoughts/tendencies (if you aren't already
seeing a therapist).
#2) Start exercising! That's definitely key. 30-40 minutes, 3-4 times
per week is wonderful.
#3) Start limiting (or cutting out) the junk food. No more burgers, no
more chips, no more cake, cookies etc.... Personally, I do eat them all,
but I just do it sensibly. There's no way I could cut out "treat" items
like that....I'd go crazy and binge later. I just eat them in small
amounts, and only occasionally.
#4) Start eating smaller portions. There's no rule that says we must sit
down and eat 2-3 helpings of the main course. However, many of us used to
do that. Instead, eat smaller portions and supplement the main course with
other healthy items. Veggies, fruit etc....
#5) Drink LOTS of water!! I know it sounds silly, but the majority of your
body is made up of water. You need water to keep it healthy and hydrated.
The recommended daily amt is 8, 8oz glasses of water (aka, 64 oz).
However, if you're trying to lose weight, you should drink another 8oz glass
for every 25 lbs you want to lose. Ex: Let's say you want to get down
to 200lbs. That means you need to lose 60 lbs. You should drink 8
glasses of water, PLUS the 2.4 for the extra weight you're carrying....a
total of 10.4, 8oz glasses every day. I'm sure I thoroughly confused you,
and if I did, I'm sorry.
#6) Keep a journal if you think it will help. Many people track their
food so they don't go over the recommended amounts of
fat/calories/carbohydrates etc... I personally don't do that, I find it to
be too tedious, but I do journal my thoughts and feelings about my weight
loss. I find it helps me to go back and read specific entries as I
progress on the weight loss journey.
#7) Post to ASD. Jeremy, you're in the right place. We are all going
through the same thing. We know the ups and downs of weight loss. We know
the feelings that go along with it. Some people will be on plateaus and
others will be losing like crazy, but we all even eachother out in the long
run. It's very inspirational to read about someone who just hit a
milestone, while you're on your plateau. It just helps to keep you
motivated.
You took the first step by posting on here. Keep it up!! And think about
what I've said. Losing weight is hard work, nobody will dispute that, but
just remember that YOU'RE WORTH IT!!!!!!! You can do it! Welcome to the
group!! =)
