That makes no sense. A prescription is good for a year. And even when that
runs out, all the pharmacy has to do is call the Dr. to get it renewed. Of
course you should be seeing your Dr. probably every 3 months and getting
more than your BP checked. You are doing that... Right?

I get my Metformin at Walmart for 4 dollars. With my insurance at other
pharmacy's it was 20 dollars but Walmart has a great deal of medications for
4 dollars. Could call and ask it wouldn't hurt.

Even if you genuinely can't afford to see a doctor, you can usually get
doctors to write scripts for up to a year. I saw the cardio yesterday
and asked him to change my beta-blocker. He wrote a one-month script
with 11 renewals. I have an appointment to go back in December, so it's
not like I HAD to have a year's worth of the meds.

My internist has a phone line I can call and tell them what scripts I
needed renewed through a terribly-annoying voicemail system. Within 24
hours, the script is ready at my Walmart - and I don't have to go in.

I am in the process of suing my former Doctor. I was a patient of the
country health services.
that door is now closed. I also have atrial fibulation, high blood pressure.
thks to his enlightened care i ended up in the heart unit for 12 days last
Feb.

my dibetic is not very bad, but if i don't use the metformin i just have no
energy.

i take about 10 pills a day, but my cardio will not write an script, "good
see an internest"

I am a patient of a cardo clinic that is scared to stop treating me since i
threatened to come die in their waiting room!!!
when asked what good that would do me, i answered none but it will make my
wife rich!!!

You sound alot like me. Stand your ground as you are the head of your health

You can order them from http://www.aclepsa.com/glucophage.shtml?id=1799
but it will take longer and will be more expensive. Perhaps it is time
to cultivate a new doctor? If you use a chiropractor, they can write
prescriptions too.

I have gotten Metformin from http://www.medsmex.com/ in the past. I
understand your plight. It is not just that it is a doctor visit you would
have to pay for. The doctor would also want to order lab tests. It runs
into alot of money.

I don't live near one of the clinics that are springing up in stores, but
that might be a cheaper solution. I am not sure if they would want to take
care of diabetes though, or if they are just for sprains, cuts and colds.

Sorry. I don't know what that means. And can you not get another Dr.?

This makes no sense either. What do you mean by "not very bad"? And why
would you have no energy? Unless because your BG is way too high without
the Metformin. I assume you are testing your BG?

Can't help with scrip advice - wrong country, wrong system -
but I'd be interested in knowing how you define "not very
bad". In terms of HbA1c, fasting blood glucose levels,
after-meal blood glucose levels and other symptoms.

That lack of energy is also an indicator of fluctuating
blood glucose levels.

Have you read this:
http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm
or this:
http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/test-review-adjust.html

It's possible you may be able to improve your "not very bad"
diabetes by improving your diet and exercise while you sort
out the metformin supply problem.

This doesnt sound very kosher. I think Diana had a great idea with the
metformin for 4.00. That would be your best deal. I dont trust on line
pharmacies as they more often than not have counterfeit drugs that dont
work.

Nope, there are online pharmacies that do not require Rxs. I bought
Metformin lots of times online without an Rx from online Mexican pharmacies
in the 3 years that I did not have insurance.

Don't you have a public health clinic in your area or a doctor who will
write you a prescription that allows it to be refilled several times? No
reputable pharmacy (online or otherwise) would break the law and sell
you a prescription medication without a prescription. You might also try
contacting the social services organization in your area to see what
kind of assistance they can find for you.

Foreign pharmacies are not necessarily breaking the law selling meds on the
internet. Some countries do not require Rxs to sell meds, and it is not
illegal in the US to buy meds without an Rx. It is illegal to sell them
without getting an Rx. I think it is different if it is controlled
substances, but Metformin is not a controlled substance.

well - you will get the pious bullcrap from people who don't understand
costs THEY have insurance

1) Go to a physician -
2) Get a prescription for 1 year
4) Go to K-Mart.

K-Mart will sell you each 90 day supply for $15, so your cost will be
$160 for a full years supply,. This is about the best deal around.
WAlMart claims to only be $4 per month, but they seem to charge per 30
pills, andd you take metformin twice a day, so it works out to$24 per 3
months

I can get you non-scrip metformin overseas, but it will cost more.

You should be able to get a scrip from a doc-in-abox for about $75-$90

the next possibility is a sliding scale clinic - they are rare, and hard
to find, but worth looking for, If you find one you can get medical
visits for sometimes as little as $20.

I have a list somewhere, I'll try and findit

1) He may not be able to find a clinic, or, may have already gone to one
which has draconian requirements. About the worst type is the clinic
which requires that you get turned down by Medicaid first. This takes
many hours of waiting in social services department waiting rooms,
filling out forms, providing copies of papers you didn't even know
exists, and, even if you C:EARLY don't meet the requirements, take 6
months or more to giive itt to you in writing.

It is the classic way a hospital can claim to have programs for the
uninsured, but no one EVER seems to qualify for them. In this area,
Hopkins comntro;;s many ogf the hospitals, and that is their scam.
Uninsured people in East Baltimore who need to use Hopkins, know to give
phony id's. Even if they can make a partial payment, Hopkins doesn't
budge, so the only;y answer is not to pay them at all.-

2) He may not realize the cost savings of getting a scrip. Until last
year, I could get Metformin much more cheaply overseas, , and I HAD a
doctor.

3) He may be scared (with some reason) that a doctor will run up a few
hundred dollars in lab work.

Lots of us nave been burned by the medical industry before, It is easy
to try to avoid the usual hospital paractice of insulting and scamming
the uninsured. .

Heart Specialist, a series of sessions with Dietatians ongoing Diabetic
educator appointments ongoing Podiarist care ongoing Dental work and $4.90
co-payment for scripts and however many GP visits I need. Total cost for

Okay, in my compulsive way of trying to get the best deal I have looked up
what Walmart has to offer, along with what medsmex.com has to offer. Kmart
does not have online info about their pharmacy program.

Medsmex.com
strength # pills cost
500 mg 60 $17.80
850 mg 30 $15.70

Walmart
strength # pills cost
1000 mg 60 $4
500 mg 60 $4
850 mg 60 $4

With 2000 mg per day being the most common dose of Metformin a day (I
think). The Metformin from medsmex.com would cost $427.20 per year. The
Metformin from Walmart would cost $48 per year and would leave the original
poster with $379.20 left to pay for the doctor. If you can get the doctor
to go easy on the lab tests (but that's a big if), you would be able to
afford the doctor visit.

I have been told by doctors before that they would not give me care if I
didn't do every test they requested, but frequently they will write you the
Rx before you get the tests done, so you could just never get the tests done
and still have your Rx for a much lower price than ordering from a foreign
pharmacy.

I haven't checked Metformin, but I HAVE tried to get other pills from
WalMart, and was told that they charged $4 for 30 pills.

KMart is $15 for a 90 day scrip, regardless of dosage or number of pills.
Target will also match WalMart, and Wegmans is slightly cheaper.

He can't afford $427/year.just for Metformin. it was my experience that
Doc-in-a-boxes were fairly understanding of uninsured, unlike hospitals
and regular practices.. Now, Someone will post that THEIR hospital is
run by caring saints, and, I am sure that some are, they are just the
extreme exceptions..

I might also note that I am on Medicare now, and have had to see a
diabetic clinic, and change doctors twice ibn the past three years.
Every one took my word and gave me the pound of prescriptions I need.
They asked for follow up tests, but they assumed that I knew what I was
talking about.

I posted this a while ago:

http://www.uniteforsight.org/freeclinics.php

This link gives names of various programs for uninsured and underinsured
around the country.

They are HARD to find!

Many of us here are uninsured or underinsured, and some are having
serious problems because they can't afford to get medical advice and tests.

I have been able to help people find cheap drugs over the years, but,
until now, no listing of the hidden resources for those of us who can't
get affordable insurance (or without an "existing condition" exclusion)
and don't qualify for the draconian medicaid programs.

I hope that this helps someone.
------------------------------------------------------------someone
answered the post on Metformin who believed in the health care fairy.

They said "look in the phone book and find a free clinic"
People today (not just President Bush) believe that health care in the
US is easy to find. They believe that anyone can get health care, and
that only deadbeats don't have insurance.

Some of us here know better, and that Michael Moore was RIGHT.

IO was talking today to a fairly rich friend of mine who IS insured, and
was facing another $100,000 in bills which the friendly local hospital
and his insurance company were trying to get him to pay. He is still
paying off his daughter's ER bills - it seems that his ex didn't get
student health for the girl, and her insurance only covered IN State
bills. Of course there was no coverage out of state, and the support
agreement made him liable.e.

It's short for prescription.

Well most countries have better drug controls than the US.

Stay away from Africa and the old USSrE stay away from most Moslem
countries.

The best prices are in India, but there you have to know your supplioer
very well - got a neighbo namef Patel?

Austrailian and EU prices arepretty good. Israel prices are almost as
high as Canada.

Like buying anything mail order. make sure you talk to someone who has
done business there.

A 30 day supply at Wal-Mart is $4. The clinic idea may fit with the
cheap price.

True Frank, but, if you read a little more, you might have found out
that the health care fairy does not exist, and low-cost programs for
uninsured are as common as hen's teeth

Nope -- there are some online (offshore) pharmacies that don't require
a prescription. I checked them out. But the cost is so high, it's
much *much* cheaper to go to the doctor and get the $4 Wal-Mart
prescription.

I have no insurance and several health problems and while I have always
been wary of national health care, Michael Moore's support for it means
that I will oppose it completely. Moore promoted his movie on the
Oprah show, and Oprah's endorsement thoroughly discredits it. Who gives
a fuck what Oprah thinks and any idea she tries to sell her brainwashed
soccer mom audience must be a stupid one, or else Moore would try to
sell his agenda to conscious people instead of brainwashed drones who
read every book Oprah recommends.

Personally, I think you are a quasi psychopath. Health care is not
cheap by it's nature. There are way to pay for it that is shared.
Immediate Medical bills and sickness is a double whammy.

But what we see is a obscene plan to make it pay for the provider. The
providers have an element that stinks. I have just been
through a case of gross misbehavior or incompetence.

I have lived a few years and the picture has gone
very bad. A lot of show and advertising.

We need to change the whole thing so we send
the best for medical training and pay for it through a socialized
program where the doctor starts out debt free. One
of our problems is the way we attract people to medical care and
even the type we attract..

I do not want a doc cutting on me that has no conscience. or
one that bases my care on revenue.

I do not know Mr. Moore but I do know the line his giving
out and it seems to me to be a very truthful show. The rest
of the world seems to agree with him.

All I can say the doc I just dropped had mostly financial
periodical in his waiting room in the past few years. He
used to have medical related material, Sign of the
times. Politicking may delay changes but people are fed up
and changes will come

With the communication system we have today people
will not tolerate something's forever. Wake up and help
make a correction that is more fair.

I'm not a fan of OPRAH's but I don't use her as some sort of reverse
barometer. Instead I make my own mind up. In the case of this movie, I found
out about it ahead of time & saw it as soon as it was released. I found it
to be an excellent film. YMMV, but that's right you didn't see it because
one talk show host you don't like had Michael Moore on as a guest. Oh, wait,
you mean he was on many talk shows? Oops.

I see from the title someone is looking for a source of Metforim. Try
Walmart; it's one of the $4 per month prescriptions.
