I sold an FX unit. Shipped it via FedEx on 12/7. Dissappeared from
their radar. Doing a claim as we speak, first time this has ever
happened to me. I've sent at least 100 packages over the last couple
of years. Sucks.

Well, at least you're using FedEx. UPS puts the package on our porch,
presses the doorbell button, and leaves. The truck is usually gone
when I open the door.

Raining? They don't care.

Anybody home? They don't care.

Vandals and thieves in the neighborhood? They don't care.

I'm really surprised that dishonest people haven't buried them
with "I never received it" claims.

In fairness, FedEx does the same thing sometimes, but not as often as
UPS.

I came home from an out-of-town trip to find an expensive oscilloscope
on the porch in the rain. Fortunately, I didn't need the box and
I know how to dry out electronics. Don't know how a certain thief
who lives four blocks away--or the kids that use our yard as a short-cut
to school--didn't see it.

Another time UPS did check whether I was home--but when I wasn't,
just picked a neighbor (that I had never met) across the street
to leave it with. And did not get a signature, though the label
said that was required.

Regular UPS guy drives around back and walks about 80 ft. and places
the package under the patio roof next to the sliding door. Everyone
else walks about eight feet and leaves them on a little step in front
so when you push open the storm door the package falls off onto wet
concrete when it is raining...

What's an FX unit?

That's how they are here. Now when I lived in NY, in military housing in a
building that had a dry, safe place to put them, they wouldn't leave them!
Had to have a signature. Luckily I was home most of the time.

When we lived in NY, we were on the ground floor of an apartment building.
I seemed to get all of the Fed Ex packages for the 6 units in my building
and often those of other buildings. I would have to deliver the stuff
myself!

And this is supposed to be of interest to us in what way?

And with eleven other responses, obviously it _is_
of interest to us in some way.

I was hoping that somewhere it would be revealed what the package was!

I can relate to problems with FedEx, though.
Mostly delivering to the wrong address.

I'm laughing as I recall our dealings with courier companies in my thrity
years of work as a technician -
Couriers showing up with no identification; not knowing what they were
supposed to pick up from whom; showing up in a dirty big tray truck to pick
up a small box; showing up in a small car to pick up a pallette load of
servers; going to the wrong address (wrong state); head office not knowing
what the hell happened to a delivery (being eventually "found in the back of
a truck"; an urgent delivery taking ages because the courier did several
other deliveries along the way... I could go on.

Last night I thought we were robbed. There was a large Fed Ex box sitting
open and empty in front of our garage. Turns out my husband put it out
there. Don't ask me why! Anyway it was a box that had come in the past.

Oh. I tried to play acoustical years ago but never really caught on to it.
Thought I could easily make the switch from violin, but no.

Try tenor guitar. It is tuned in 5ths like the violin family,
and has 4 strings. Similarly, the mandolin family.

When I was in college I took a course in vilolin thinking my guitar
playing would transfer...no way, I was horrible and couldn't play
anything unless I fingerpicked the notes!

i love FedEx's service

i will get a notice that they arrived an i wasn't there
i call them, and they arrange delivery at work during working hours, or
at whatever address i want them to bring the parcel to

ONLY by posting a note "Courier, please leave items on the porch or in
the mail box." will allow me to NOT be there to sing for a parcel arriving

of course, the shipper has to REQUEST signature verification........
otherwise, the parcel is just left on the porch or at the neighbour's house

I didn't. They just left them at my door. I didn't sign for them or
anything. I think they just knew most of the time I was home. Because I
was. The UPS guy did say he liked delivering to me because I was almost
always home. A couple of times I had to sign a paper and get it on another
day. But generally I was home when he delivered.

Since the packages were left on my doorstep, I felt I needed to get them to
the recipients. I had no idea what was inside and often military stuff
(things to put on uniforms and such) are delivered this way.

I did once get very angry at the Fed Ex guy and my husband only to find out
in the end, I had caused the problem. I transposed the numbers when I put
in my address. Turns out there is a trailer with such an address about a
mile from here. The guy did manage to track down our phone number but he
called my husband who did not write down a message. Just told me that some
guy called and had my package.

I didn't know what to do. Fed Ex was of no help and neither was the place
where I placed the order. The poor guy kept calling back, alas getting my
husband each time. These days you never know when I will be home, unlike
the past. Luckily the guy kept up with the phone calls and eventually got
me. I rushed right over and got it.

Only when I placed another order with that company did I see the mistake and
boy was my face red! Now I double check the address each time.
