Van Gogh 'The Starry Night'

Has anyone seen this painting. It is the perfect expression of a bipolar in
a mixed state. No?

I just saw it a couple weeks ago. It's an awesome feeling standing inches
in front of it. It's at MOMA in NYC. The have some of his earlier works
too. You can see the progression of his illness in work as the years
progress. Wonder what would have happened if they had meds then?

Saw it several years ago at the MoMA in NY. Definitely.

Maybe he would have went on to paint another 30 years.

I liked one of his self portraits. It was in the colors of a colorful
starburst but the expression on his face was so dour, it was such a
great expression of a mixed state: the exuberance of the color and the
dourness of his expression.

I have a print of "The Starry Night" in my bedroom at the foot of my bed. I
love it and I also love Don McLean's son "Vincent." The alliteration (sp)
is wonderful. van Gogh is my hero. Meds would not work for him. He was
"too beautiful."

I refer to him a lot in my theme poem, "I Want to be Paint!" Seeing it IRL
was totally awesome. The colors were a bit more muted than I expected but
the pigments were more limited in his time. What makes the color in most of
my paintings so intense is the new pigments they have now. In his time they
didn't have a lot of the chemical based ones that we do now. Most of the
paint then was organic in nature.

'mental illness' was much more organic in nature way back when.

Up until the 'Mad Hatter' murcury phase.

The 'mental illness' became more chemical.

In the 'Information Age', we'll soon find that 'mental illness'
happens to 'the best of us' simply from the cognitive dissonance
'bad' information thrusts into the mind.

I can't wait to see 2037 ART, if Mother Earth lets us advance so far.

Hmmmm...I'd be 83 by then. Hope I'm still kicking around rather than
kicking the bucket.

The colors can darken with time. As the oils oxidize throughout the years
they attract dust an pollutants and begin to darken, however, I regocnized a
lot of the colors he used in the paintings and I know their pigment bases.
From what I could see they were all organically based pigments. I use a
Pthalo Blue (made from long chemical word including phtalo in it) in my
paintings and there is none in any of his. I'm sure if it was available to
him he would have used it by the gallon like I do.
I read once that he started to eat his paint so he could feel more a part of
the work. Don't know if it's true or not, but I can see where he's coming
from.
