the europeans have cultures - german, french, etc. the asians have
cultures - chinese, japanese, etc.

unfortunately, it usually doesn't take long after a family moves to america
until they have lost their ancestral culture. what do they get instead?
nothing of any cultural value. material possessions - yes, perhaps.
culture - no. just fast food, baseball, football, obesity, violence, crime,
and everything else that characterizes america. nothing worth calling
"culture".

moving to america involves being transformed from a civilized european or
asian into a barbaric american.

It's okay, I've finished with them now. (Takes grinding wheel off

The opinions given above may be mine. They might also
just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Don't forget the age difference between America nad the countries you named.
It takes many many centuries for traditions to emerge and take root as venerate
culture.

But so too, we can lay claim to some things as our own in art and music. New
York school of abstract impressionism for example, or the blues. And our
language is full of idioms and such that point to a peculiarly American persona
-- a cultural being.

But I know this worry about culture. We are in some sense a fast food, fast
car, fast read society. Read Faulkner -- it will bring American culture -- at
least Southern culture vividly alive! He is the best.

I lost my keys because my grandson took them to play with them.

Hehehe, I found my keys again, my grandson had put them in the shower
stall. He goes home on Tuesday, I have to say this past 10 days have been a
delight with this young person around, he has even managed to dull my pain
of losing Marne.

They live in Melbourne, I live in Brisbane, which is about 1,700 kilometres
distance. Or for the metric illiterate about 1,056 miles away.
