It can be related to the prednisone you are taking to treat your illness.
But with CD you can also get a skin rash that looks similar to pimples,
but this usually appears on your legs & sometimes arms.  I am presently
being treated for active CD & have the "rash" on my legs, particularly my
thighs & upper arms. My GI says it is related to the CD & until the
disease is in remission or under control, I can expect the "rash" to
stay.  Hope this has helped.

Here is a question for you all. Do any of you find that after taking
pred for  a while your skin becomes slightly bad. I never used to have
any problems, even when I was a teenager. Now sometimes, not all the
time, I find that some weeks I have a slight pimple problem. Any
ideas?

Ihave had prednisone related pimples. I have also had some relief from them
with b-12 injections, which many of with cd should take. It is not a cure but I
have noted some relief.

Yes, I broke out real bad while on prednisone.... my skin became real
greasy... I had to wash my face two or three times a day.  the smaller the
doses I took the less I broke out...I'm almost off the prednisone now and
my skin is almost clear again...definitely one of the side effects of
prednisone..

Yup, yup, yup...prednisone is the culprit...or at least part of the
culprit..in your skin problems.  I also get the complexion of a
teenager...While I get a problem with break-outs on my face, I also
find that I get the pimple problem on my scalp also.  Thankfully, this
is an area that the rest of the world is unaware of as they remain
unseen to others.

I went to a dermatologist.  Of course, the recommended form of treatment
for medication induced acne, is to take another medication orally.  Since
I already take so much medication, I requested a topical solution - and
that is what I was given.  For the most part, it does work to keep these
buggers under control.  If you find your problem bothersome, I would
recommend you make an appt with a dermatologist.  The treatment is
relatively inexpensive...and topically, causes no additional side effects.

Seems odd, but all three times I've been on prednisone (2x for CD, once
for poison ivy), my face has cleared up beautifully, only to get
"pizza-faced" again once I started to taper.  weird, huh?

Yes, it happends to me also, and I can treat it successfully by having my
dr prescribe T-Stat, a prescription containing tetracycline.  It is usd a
lot by pregnant woment who have acne problems.  Your dr will feel that you
have to live with the acne as a mild side effect to pred, but you don't.

Yep, same here.  Just a slight pimple problem, slightly oilier skin than usual.

Not too bad though, and it will go, apparently, when the drug is stopped.  The
problem is similar to what teens suffer - hormonal imbalance, pred is a cortisal
mimic (like anabolic steroids are a testosterone mimic).  You won't gain any
muscle while on pred, its catabolic (anti building) but not devastatingly so
for most.

Intestingly its competely removed my small patches of psoriasis, one of the
side effects!

Part of the problem may also be a rise in toxins in the blood as a result of
the drugs (depends on how many/volume/types).   The kidneys and liver will only
process so much before becoming a little overburdened, one sign of mild
toxicity is an increase of pimples.  Get a blood test to see if your affected
internally.  Its usually not serious though.

Gerry
