Did someone already post this??

I hope not. If so , sorry.

Did you hear that the word "DOH!" has been added to the OED???
It's true. The next edition will include DOH! as well as DUH and a
few other now commonly used terms.

Dan Castanellenta [voice of homer] is given credit for the coining of
the term.

neat.

Which would be a disservice. Nothing wrong with Castanellenta getting the
nod except for the fact that the term has been in use for about 25 years and
was only popularized by the Simpsons. ;)

He did state that he picked it up from something he heard in a laural
and hardy movie. Which is also in the citation.

I'd like to see "squick" added to the OED. My husband just loves this word...

I want them to add "yoink". It's my favorite Simpson's word.

I work for a major North American dictionary publisher. We do not yet have
the word "childfree" entered in any of our dictionaries (though one of one
competitors does). However, we do have many citations for the word in our
files, so it may get entered in a later edition. Most of our citations come
from editors reading and marking current magazines, newspapers, and books. This
is not one of my regular duties, but I did personally read and mark the New
York Times Magazine article from the Summer of 2000, which contained a lot of
the usual CF vocabulary. I know of at least one other editor here (my "work
wife") who does reading and marking on a regular basis and is decidedly CF
(there's a topic: If you have a "work spouse" in addition to your usual SO,
is he/she CF as well?). I should convince her to read and mark some more
CF literature if she hasn't already.

Well, yes, but I think "edible" is open to interpretation.
