Life as *I* know it has been disrupted this past week due to annoying
Warner Brothers' film crews set up at the Lindbergh MARTA station in
Atlanta. For the past few days, I have had to negotiate around tons of
cables, monster lights, surly crew members, clueless security guards,
and meadering extras just to get to my truck in the public parking lot
to go home.

Yesterday, there was a whole crowd of moomies with strollers shooting
a scene outside one of the shops. Those of us regular commuters, who
just wanted to get home, had to wait while little sproggen frolicked
amongst the crowd and the shot was completed.

Here's what this damn movie, "Life As We Know It" is about: Two single
adults become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best
friends die in an accident, starring Kathryn Heigl and Josh Duhamel.

Awwwwww. PUKE!

I guess I wouldn't be so put out if it were something ass-kickingly
cool; however ass-kickingly cool is usually 99% CGI nowadays and
wouldn't be disrupting public transit.

I'm going to walk around with my own camera on my way home to take
pictures of the production and see how long it takes before someone
tries to tell me that I can't take pictures in a public place without
permission.

I have a friend who similarly booted for shooting pictures of an on-
location filming in a public place. However, cities really dig having
Hollywood come to town, because it brings in revenue for the city and
helps promote it for tourism. The problem is when they film in
congested areas, of course.

We are expecting as full report!

Do it do it do it! Get a confederate to video you in action
(but have him/her keep it low-key), and post your bust to
YouTube!

Frank:

As long as bystanders aren't gathering a crowd, I don't see why a few
discreet photos (or videos) can't be shot from a respectable distance.
Where the filmmakers are entitled to some courtesy however, is when
celebrity actors appear, to give their performances. It's very
distracting to have mobs of gawkers around when an actor is trying to
stay "in the role". The sooner the film company can finish its work,
the sooner they will move on and leave that site free of congestion.

Yeah, you'd think. People have been soundly busted for this,
even in public spaces, though.

Hell yeah they have...but alas, Frank - I have no good story. If ONLY
I had my camera the day before when the "stars" were on set!

I did have two MARTA cops ask me what I was doing and I just said,
"I'm taking pictures." They shrugged and didn't press it. I got some
snapshots of various equipment - cables, lights, boom towers - but at
this point most of the crowd shots were done and being broke down.

Finally, I did film myself trying to get out of the garage, having to
drive around and around, but that footage wasn't too interesting as it
just showed me negotiating around big trucks, a guard directing
traffic, a school bus coming entirely too close to me, and a tech's
pickup truck not paying attention and starting to back into me.

Oh well, next time....
