I MUST send this to www.glennsacks.com........

http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/dailyweekly/2009/11/university_of_washington_needs.php

First third of article:

Researchers at the University of Washington need volunteers. The UW is
one of a handful of prominent facilities working towards the Holy
Grail of birth control, the male contraceptive pill, and in order to
grasp the chalice they're willing to pay healthy men $1,300 to play
guinea pig.

By their own account, UW is roughly five years away from engineering a
pill that would successfully suppress sperm production. In the global
footrace to finish first, a marathon that's been running for nearly
three decades, that'd put them somewhere in the lead pack.

A medical breakthrough minutes up 23rd Avenue would be a nice feather
in Seattle's cap. But what'd be more helpful is if the scientists
working to calibrate male hormones would be willing to identify this
mysterious tribe of men they think exist who'd be willing to pay for
such an intrusion.

Keeping a post on male birth control from sounding like an Onion spoof
is difficult. Especially since it's already been done. (Sample quote:
"We already bear the enormous responsibility of pulling out and now
they want to make us do this?")

Another, more interesting article (especially the previous one said
nothing about deceptive wives):

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/143579/word_to_the_wise:_never_date_a_guy_who_reads_details_magazine/

Excerpt:

"I feel bad for any man who is manipulated or lied to so that his
partner can get pregnant against his wishes. That is a really bizarre,
selfish and terrible thing. But it doesn’t justify subverting the
basic bodily autonomy rights of an entire class of people (or even the
basic bodily autonomy rights of the jerk in question). The way around
manipulative jerks who would lie about being on birth control is to
use birth control yourself. You know that “control” you feel like
you’re missing? Here’s how you get it: Wear a condom. Get your tubes
tied. Put some pressure on drug companies to come up with male birth
control — the reason they aren’t developing or marketing it is because
they don’t think there’s a demand.

"You know what is an actual established problem, bolstered by
research? (link) Men sabotaging their partners’ birth control pills as
a form of control and abuse. Just sayin’."
