Role of good bacteria, TLR9 in Tregs and infectious response
Public release date: 2-Oct-2008 NIH/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases DNA of good bacteria drives intestinal response to infection A new study shows that the DNA of so-called "good bacteria" that normally live in the intestines may help defend the body against infection. L-tryptophan aids herpes replication
CMV and Epstein-Barr are in the same family of viruses. I suspect this helps to explain the mysterious deaths by infection that accompanied tryptophan supplementation several years ago. FYI, turkey is a rich source of tryptophan. As I mentioned in another message, my health improved when I eliminated it from my diet recently.... more »

Herpesviruses secrete phony IL-10; might cause autoimmune risk
IL-10 is a cytokine vital to the functioning of regulatory T-cells (Tregs). When I found out I had a raging CMV infection<1>, I ran a literature search cross-referencing members of the herpesvirus family with vitamin D3 to see if I could explain why oral supplementation with D3 is much less effective for me than UV exposure. Well, it turns out... more »

This is a response I emailed one of the authors (Houston) of the paper, "Anemia of Chronic Disease: A harmful disorder or an adaptive, beneficial response?" <[link]>. I've edited my remarks somewhat to remove personal references and make them more readable. Due to size, I will probably post any supporting... more »

Chlorella and B. fragilis/PSA stimulate IL-10
In addition to its antiviral properties, Chlorella also has antiinflammatory properties similar to a bacterial product called PSA and I wonder if Chlorella contains PSA or a similar molecule. Helminths stimulate IL-10 and IL-10, in turn, stimulates regulatory T-cells which protect against autoimmunity.... more »

Does sodium butyrate reawaken CMV, a virus causing colitis?
After all this time, I tested for a few viruses and my titers came back positive for Varicella Zoster (the virus behind chicken pox and the shingles), HHV6 and cytomegalovirus (CMV, which can cause chronic fatigue and colitis). Many if not most people have these viruses, often from birth. It's likely my mercury exposure reawakened them.... more »
