Glad to hear you're in cancer kicking mode, Betsy. You go!
I wonder if deep-fried cheese curds help gain weight. Apparently they're
available at Culver's and A&W's.
Good luck with the CT scan.

Thanks, Rob (brain cancer) and I went to the Cancer Survivors' Retreat
on September 28 and 29. We had a great time and were able to connect
with our friends and fellow survivors. Rob's current course of Chemo
started on Tuesday. he's doing pretty well with it and not talking
about quiting the chemo this time. His mood is back to being genial
and we are happy with that.

I'll be seeing you at the outlet mall.

Good luck.
No treatment at all for me, no trials available. Have an appt in November
but have already been told there is nothing available. They reckon none of
the available treatments work. I will ask for a review of this decision
when I go for the Nov appt.

Hi Pam,
Glad to hear your upbeat news. Best to you and Rob !

Hi Betsy,
A nutritional supplement made by Nestle called "Nutren Optimum" has been a
great help to me to put back on weight.
Glad to hear you are feeling good.

Mike's from Australia. Maybe he'll have a word with you.

The corporate jet's in for repair or I'd take you some, Betsy.
It's good to read that the bilirubin's down.
You and Janet going shopping?
Have a wonderful day, Betsy.

Good to hear you had a great couple of days and perhaps recharged the
batteries a bit, sounds like it did Rob good too.

I've been away for a while due to computer trouble and busy with other
things. I have metastasized bladder cancer and had chemo cisplatine/
gemzar 2 years ago. Still doing rather good, but I had pain trouble
since may and the enlarged lymphnode that probably is causing the
trouble is in a difficult place for radiation + I wanted to do chemo
before I would be to sick to handle the poison. My oncologist was a bit
reluctant to chemo but because of the position of the lymphnode agreed
to give it a try. It didn't feel right to me to do nothing at all and
since the chemo I had was 2 years ago and I handled it well, the team
agreed to give it a try. My quality of life wasn't all that anymore
because of the pain and the high dose of morphine I had to take to
control it. Started treatment chemo carboplatin/Taxol 2,5 weeks ago (one
week treatment and two weeks off in 6 cycles). My hair and pain are gone
and I'm doing very well for now. Was sick for a few days, but recovered
quickly from the first treatment. Scan after three cycles ( 9 weeks).
We'll see.
All the best to you, I hope the response to the radiation is good and
good luck the 25th, hope further radiation is okay and your tumor shrinks.

Good luck with the treatment, Anne,
It's good to read that there's less pain already.

Hello Betsy,
I hope you're not too disappointed that there's only some shrinkage. I
think you're only one of a few who've had RT to a mass on the pancreas
(that I can recall here), so easy does it, would be my thought on that and
hoping a capsule forms and shrinkage continues for you.
When you mentioned lighthouse, I just had to go looking...
I see what you mean http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/lighthouse/nj.htm (in case
others want to have a look at some of them too)
There's some beauts there, but some way too high. Very interesting topic.
I hope you have a wonderful day, Betsy.

Here J -soory for the late post.
Becky
Uncle Sally here in sunlight drenched northern Thailand surrounded by
flowers in bloom, days in the mid-to-upper 80'sF to low 90'sF, nights
getting cooler. Most likely, barring another typhoon ramming south China,
the late monsoon rains have passed. The air-con is off for the next two to
three months :)
This is the time of the year that many people here struggle through the rest
of the year to make it to :) Personally I also love the heavy-rains season,
particularly when storms last two to three days and have high winds and
lightning. What could be better than to be in bed with a good book reading
while your cat purrs alongside you while outside the sounds of heavy rain
and lightning serenade you, and you can hear gusts of high wind rattling the
trees ?
Now five months since my last RT and chemo. Still almost no sense of taste.
Five weeks of a chronic low-grade fever (.4 degree to .9 degree F above
"normal") has knocked me off my playing Tarzan in the gym. All my doctors
(GP, ENT, and RO) cannot find anything wrong with me in terms of evidence of
any systemic infection.
The swellings in my neck tissue, and (subjectively) their hardening,
continue : again the doctors using the Sept. 19th. CT scans can find no
evidence of "abnormal tissue." Some of the swellings are in the mastoid
area, others under the jaw. Needless to say having these "undiagnosed"
conditions makes me nervous.
Yeast infection comes and goes in spite of three different types of
anti-fungal I've tried.
This week, Tuesday, one of my meds stuck again; this one stung like hell for
hours as it dissolved or whatever it did. My throat has been painful since.
I've been on soy-milk + protein powder only for the last four days since
swallowing hurts.
I am aware that these problems, central as they are in my experience, are
relatively "trivial" compared to what so many of you are going through, and
I am thankful to be relatively strong again. My "novel" in progress is up to
85k words, and that is very satisfying. Whether it's "art" or not, whether
it will ever be something to be enjoyed by many other people : that's for
the future. Right now it feels good to create.
God bless all of You !
best, Uncle Sally

Waving hello to Becky :)
J
God for you, for starting a novel, Uncle Sally !
Sorry to hear pills getting stuck.
You think putting pill in soy milk, (slippery?) would help them go down better?
Just a thought and once you've gotten a sure-fire way of handling you might want
to try broad spectrum antibiotic?
Good to hear from you, as always.
Best,
J

How's your blood sugars, Betsy?
You might want to try cooking some white meat (chicken, turkey, crab,
lobster?) in crockpot to make it tender and add some veggies.
Leave a window cracked open.
If you can't eat it, by the time it's ready, there'll be cats and dogs (or
me) lined up waiting to eat it.
:)

Bored eh? Well here I come to save the day. :p
Teeth chattering is just a symptom of shivering. Shivering is a
physiological response to cold, it's coming from inside. The hypothalamus,
in your brain, monitors your temperature. When it gets a message that
you're cold inside, it sends out nerve impulses to your muscles and they
cause your teeth (jaw/muscles) to chatter.
What's vinegar got to do with it?
Vinegar cuts grease /fat. But there's not much fat inside your body right
now and I would never suggest that you eat vinegar with ice cream. So you
could try a fry (as in French fry) with a drop of vinegar on it or stay
tuned for an interesting plan, but continue the ice cream, in case you
don't like the plan.
