The studies have only been done on mice, and at least one aspect of the
study mentioned in the article is that the nanorods are calibrated to just
fit in the narrow blood vessels nearby the tumor -- I would guess those
would be different for humans. There are also bound to be differences
between humans and mice with respect to the metabolic 'half-life' of gold in
the bloodstream, one of the problems they had to solve.
So, when they say that the path to use on humans will be a few years, I can
see why. It's a great idea and I look forward to hearing more about it.
