HI All,

Today was my last session of radiation therapy. I had 42 sessions. I have had very little side effects. A couple of times with strong radiation burn pain in the bladder and colon. My cancer pain is gone and the radiation burn pain is only occasional. We will get a PSA test in one month and then follow up in another two months. That will tell if the PSA is coming down. Other than the fact that I had to show up every day, Monday thru Friday, this was really not bad at all.

I hope it did the job!!

Later,

Glad it is over and relatively minor side effect(s). Hoping for good result in a few months.

Dale,

Not sure how many Gray you got in your 42 days (I got 79 in 39
days) but you should be OK for 10-14 months before any likely
radiation proctitis side effects arise. If problems arise, then
is it a crap shoot as to how severe they might be. My radiation
oncologist says I am way off the scale for side effects, but who
knows. I have been fighting side effects for 2+ years now, to
include removal of my radiated prostate, and am only now hopeful
of things settling down.

Regards, Dan

Steve,

Now that the 26 staples and 12 sutures from the April surgeries
have been removed, I have actually gotten to the point where I
can sit down without a lot of pain. And given that there is not
much left that they could take out, I see a light at the end of
the tunnel. My goal is still to play a few rounds of golf this
summer.

Regards, Dan

I haven't played golf in three years due to stress incontinence - a far cry
from what you're going through. Maybe I'll take it up again and just swing
easier.

I agree with your doctor that your SEs are statistical outliers, so we
shouldn't assume we may follow your lead. HOWEVER, I get a bit miffed
when my onc keeps reminding me that at PSA = 0.236 on May 6, my SRT
efficacy window is slowly closing, so I need to make my final SRT
decision soon.

I keep telling him that my SEs from my 2004 surgery alone are bad
enough, that, just as a prostatectomy virtually never improved any guy's
continence or sex life, RT never improves a guy's urinary or bowel
comfort or function. Every time my 4th or 5th pad in one day overflows,
or I go through a roll and a half of thick TP plus a few paper towels in
a day, my SRT decision is made for me.

Then I read of your plight and feel embarrassed about my whining.

BTW, I hope any vets here are trying to link their PC to their time in
service, if possible. That hasn't worked for me yet, but other
disabilities have, to my benefit and to the everlasting resentment of
the political faction that is furious that we babykillers get pensions
and disability pay. Win/win, even though we'd give up the latter in a
heartbeat for better health. My last disability bump application took
>400 days, but was significantly successful. Keep trying.

Have you ever tried the Acticuf, also reviewed here several years ago?
It is a small absorbent pouch with a clamp even easier to use than the
PPStop.
