I'm posting this information again, for those of you who post through
Google Groups:

Those of you who post through Google Groups need to be aware that those
of us who read your posts through news services with news readers
have no clue to what post and to whom you are replying if you don't
quote that post and attribute properly.

We do not all receive the posts in the order in which they are posted to
google groups. We do not necessarily see posts threaded and numbered the
way they're posted to google groups. We don't all see posts at the same
time because of the way newsgroup posts are distributed and deleted from
different usenet servers.

Here's what Joe Parson's has to say in his FAQ, "Surviving Usenet: A
Guide for the Earnest Newcomer":

[begin quoted material]

"QUOTING AND ATTRIBUTION

When you respond to an article, keep in mind that some people may not
have received the article you are responding to. Your carefully crafted
comments might be meaningless to someone who has not seen the earlier
posting. This is why you should include enough of the previous text to
convey context. Most software used to read newsgroups allows you to
accomplish this automatically, but it is not impossible to do it
manually. Quoted text is identified as such by some character, most
commonly a ">" sign.

...

The other essential part of quoting is the ATTRIBUTION: identifying who
said the part you are replying to. If your software doesn't do this
automatically, you'll have to insert the attribution manually--but you
should *always* do it. This convention is especially important in deeply
nested threads, where there are many replies to replies of replies to
replies of...well, you get the idea. It is not at all unusual for
discussions to get passionate, and you can be embarrassed by taking
someone harshly to task for something they never said, because your
attributions were missing--or incorrect."

[End quoted material.]

The full text of Joe's FAQ can be found in the google groups archive, as
Joe used to post it regularly to ASAD. It can also be found on the web
at: http://www.yankeemedia.net/asad/surviving.html

As Joe notes, most news readers are configured to quote and attribute by
default when replying to a post. Google groups used to work that way,
but, unfortunately, the new version ignores this usenet convention.

If you don't know how to quote and attribute, here's the instructions
from google groups help:

"To quote the previous message in your reply, click the 'show options'
link then the blue 'Reply' link at the top of the post. The full text of
the previous message is included in the composition box and marked with
angle brackets (>) at the start of each line. You can place your
comments between lines of the quote or simply add your thoughts at the
bottom."

Simple, though STUPID solution...

Google Groups Posters...

Click on "show options" for the post one
desires replying to.

Then click Reply in the
Groups: alt.support.attn-deficit

Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show
original | Report Abuse | Find messages by this author

Options List.

That includes the previous
along with your reply.

Neither User-Friendly nor Intuitive,
but it works.

Thank person X for revealing this successful technique..
