Well, I've got this part over with. At least, I finally got to see the
"expert" in this whole affair of sore, infection, etc.

He cut off the dead skin on the sore and took another culture. The first
one that I had taken was in my GYN's office about 3 weeks ago and it came
back positive. The surgeon wants to see if the cultures come up positive
again. He has decided to cut out the sore and stitch it up, but first he
wants the result of the culture taken today before setting up the date to
cut. They should know that by the first of the week. My husband went with
me, and we both are under the impression it will be done in his office, as
he has a mini-surgical room on premises.

He told me the risks: that by cutting out this sore (size of a quarter), it
might grow back later, but only bigger. But, because it won't heal in spite
of 2 antibiotics and because he needs to see how deep "in" the infection
goes, he will remove it. I'll let you all know when that has been set up.
We're supposed to go on a roadtrip next weekend, but this might cancel that
for me. Because, I've been messing around with this TOO long, and just want
to get it behind me!

My husband has a conference in Nashville, and he had planned to drive me
down to Tupelo, MS first and drop me off so I can visit my sister. If this
minor surgery changes those plans, I can always fly down later and see her.

Nanny,
Nuisance as this is it will be worth it if it "fixes" the problem. Those
infections take a lot out of a person's energy.

Will be thinking of you. The roadtrip might be nice to take your mind off
things though if you can do it without cancelling anything. I know I always
feel better when I can get away.

Take care and keep us posted. Nice to see this doctor being aggressive on
this.

Nanny,

prayers coming that way that it heals ok and that things get much much
better for you. I hope you are able to make the trip but I am sure it would
more fun if you felt better for it.

Amen to that, Squirl! Road trips are hard enough on our Fibro, but I can't
handle that AND the pain and burning as well. Nanny

Kelly, you're right about "getting away", and I've really been looking
forward to the trip. But, maybe it will work out after all, depending on
the surgeon's schedule. Nanny

Joan, you threw a new word my way: "debridement". What is that exactly?
Thanks for the good thoughts! Nanny

Amazing how little things like "getting away" mean so much some times. Will
have my fingers crossed.

You enjoy your time away. You deserve to relax and have a good time with your memories and
laughter.

Good luck with the surgery and let's hope they get you all fixed up. Maybe next spring when we head
home too, we can meet up and have some lunch, sound good??

hugs

boy, this has been a stubborn infected wound for you! i'm sorry you have to
go through all this, nanny. hopefully, this procedure and surgeon will put
an end to this ongoing situation for you. it must be so tiresome for you.

you mentioned that the last culture turned out positive and this surgeon
wants to see if the new cultures come up positive, as well. i'm a bit
curious. positive for specifically what, hon? and are they incubating the
cultures and testing abx combinations on them?

here's hoping this won't force you to cancel your plans to visit your
sister. heal quickly, sweetie.

Thanks, Janers and Kelly. It may not be the most comfortable trip for me,
but I'm ready to "leave Dodge City" for awhile! Nanny

Appreciate your thoughts, Joan and Kate. In answer to your questions, it's
a "bacterial" infection, but I have no idea what method they used to check
the cultures. My last culture showed negative, but the sore is still "alive
and well". It's in a bad and uncomfortable spot right under my tummy roll,
so there is always friction and moisture in that area. It's a bummer all
right! The surgery to remove it will be Nov. 30, so I can go ahead with my
plans for the trip :-) In the meantime, I have to keep it clean and dry as
much as possible, which will be a little harder on a long car trip. But,
I'm ready to get out of town! Nanny

Here are some prayers for you, so that the sore won't bother your trip to
see your sister. Please take care on the trip so that you won't overdo and
will have plenty of energy for that emotional get together between sisters.

Nanny, hope the trip turns out to be just wonderful for you and your sister.
And also hope you are able to keep the area dry and very clean because
bacteria always seem to be looking for a place to multiply! Surely pray
that won't be the case this time.

Oh, my. I truly don't envy you for what you are going through right now!
And I can't believe they are waiting so very long to operate on it, though at
least it sounds like the antibiotics are killing off the bugs. I hope you
have a wonderful trip and it is more than worth the hassle of a car trip with
such a sore. Ah, I squirm just thinking about it! ((((nanny))))
