I have had RA for about two years, recently have developed a hard, scaly rash
on fingers, and feet are peeling. Is this related? Will make an appointment
with dermatologist, as I don't see my RD till October. Any suggestions?

Hi, WGamino... anybody in your family mention psoriasis? (it runs in families)
Is there a possibility that your RA is really PA? I'd sure ask both the
dermie AND the rheumy about it... if it turns out to be psoriasis, that would
make PA a real possibility. (PA and RA can be very similar)

Also I have heard that you can get PA sometimes before the P shows up.

I have AS which I understand is also related to PA. I am itchy everywhere. It
starte and continues most strongly inside my ear canal. I do not have scaling
of the skin. How common is such itching in these various arthropathies?

Itching seems to be the most common complaint with Psoriasis. I personally
don't itch much with mine, but when I do, it's the 'ol ear that'll do it!
Try not to scratch it, tho. Try putting a drop or two of Evening Primrose
Oil into it. Either that or, Neutrogena sells a sesame oil that's out of
this world!! (no affiliation!!!)

The official line is that psoriasis doesn't itch. However, those of us with
psoriasis often have just one or two areas that itch at times, often
maddeningly. (not a good thing to scratch until you bleed... you are right,
best not to scratch) Sometimes some oral benadryl can help with the itching.

Happily I don't have it in my ear canals at this time, although I know of many
who do. If you post a question about it on the newsgroup
alt.support.skin-diseases.psoriasis, I'm sure you'll get some answers. If
you'd like a reply from a dermatologist, just put "attn: Dr. Joe" in the
subject line.

By the way, I remember Aase Marit had some information about this on her site.

Uv -
I have never seen the sesame oil by Neutrogena. Is there a particular name
it goes by, or just sesame oil? I'm wondering if it would help my leg. The
area where I had the cellulitis looks like a sunburn - all peeley and dry.
I've been putting emollients on it like crazy, cream like Eucerin but the
dryness persists. Maybe an oil would help

Hi Toni,

The area of skin where I had the prednisone skin tear was also peeley and
dry. The determatologist prescribed Lac-Hydrin cream. It's really helped
with the dryness.
