I am so thankful that I have aready hit my catastrophic coverage and now
have to pay very little (in comparison) for my prescriptions. One RX which
I had to pay $224.35 for I now get for $11.22, and one which was $148.83 I
now get for $7.66. Oh boy, is that going to make a difference in my drug
bill this month. However, I'm still paying $2.25 for my generics; I had
hoped that would come down a dollar or so. However I won't complain. My
drug bill was over $1,000 last month. I feel like celebrating; may even go
buy a steak!

Where do you get generics for $2.25? I'm paying $4, which is the
cheapest around here, but since I have 6 of them, if I could pay $2.25,
that would be even better :)

Carole, the $2.25 is because of being into the catastrophic coverage. My
out of pocket money has already been over $4,050.00 this year to reach this
point. I was paying more than $2.25 for generics previously; sorry I
didn't make that clear.

Well Gwen, I'm happy for you for getting a break for the next few
months, but it's going to start all over again next year. It is very
stressful for we seniors. This Plan D stuff is not all it's cracked up
to be. My major complaint is that two of my prescriptions are not
covered at all. I'm in a managed care plan but they use the Plan D
guidelines so it is the same for meds.

Ah, OK :) I thought maybe you had a mail order place or something that
was cheaper :)

Believe it or not, I pay more for my Plan D per month than I get out of
it. All but one of my meds is generic, and the one that isn't, they pay
a big $8 of it and I have to pay the rest.

Carole,
You and I are both very lucky not to have to worry about meeting the
donut hole like Gwen and many others here, especially those on TNF's
which are so expensive. My generics are $6.00 and one brand I take is
third level or $67/month, still not bad until you figure the two meds
that aren't even covered. One of those is $3.50 per pill. At least
those two don't count toward the donut hole. With the high cost of
energy as well as meds, next winter will be rough for lots of folks once
the heating season starts.

I have changed companies every year. The first year I had one that paid
even through the donut hole, but that didn't last! Didn't like the one I
had last year, and don't much like the one I have this year. I'll be
looking again for next year!

At first I paid at most 3.10 for brand name prescriptions.. then I got a
refund for paying those and now pay nothing except for my asthma meds
those cost me .22 .... I'm thankful for my medicare and coverage plan
otherwise the 12 different medications I take would cost me ALOT of money...

Which plan do you have?

I used to get my generics at Walmart which was a pain, but since they
were so cheap, I had no choice. Now other stores have jumped on the $4
generic bandwagon, so I go to my Fred Meyer pharmacy, which on a VERY
good day is in walking distance. On not so good days, I drive, but they
also have a drive through so if I don't feel like getting out of the
car, I don't have to :) They are also a lot nicer there and even
remember me each time I go.

I have a Supplemental plan with Secure Horizons and a fantastic medical
coverage with them.. most I ever pay for co-pays is 30 and half the time
medi-cal will pay for that but I never really use it. I just pay it the
only reason I have medi-cal is it now pays for my medicare monthly.
State took over paying the medicare so the ssdi recipients get their
full amounted instead of it being deducted. It's been a complete life
saver for me. I've got a feeling that medi-cal pays the other half of
the prescriptions and that is why it's free. I've only ran into one I
couldn't pay for and it was because it wasn't covered so I do have some
that are high but usually the doctors prescribe something else when they
find out it's too expensive for me. I have the AARP medicare complete
plan if you want to look into it.

I wish the state of Washington would do that. I get $154 deducted from
my SSDI for my health plan and my prescription plan. I only have to pay
$10 when I go to the doctor's, but I have to pay $35 for what they term
"detailed diagnostics" which in my case are my echocardiograms and my
MUGA tests. I always seem to have to pay something for blood tests as
well. I often feel like I'm shelling out all this money every month and
getting nothing in return.

I just sent for the AARP package so I'll see if it's any better.

well, it's a durn shame you have to take so many pills through the year, but
as long as that's the way it is, I'm glad you've cleared the doughnut hole.
This system they came up with for medicare Rx coverage is truly a committee
compromise type system!
