thank you so much harv. I already saw an RD and he's the one that said I
have OA of the neck and back. so you have the same things that I have and
you have RA? very interesting. well, it turned out that my gp won't be
back until next tues., so I am here to suffer through this and I will make
it, one way or the other. I'll be telling my gp about the numbness and
tingling in my extremities and the bluing of my nail beds and then we'll see
what he's going to do about that. he IS a very good gp. best one I've had
in canada so far except when we lived in toronto. thanks again. I
appreciate it. oh, one more thing. my chiro told me first that I have OA
of the neck. that was about 9 or 10 years ago.

My OA in the neck has been causing the numbness in my arms for nearly
ten years.
A couple of guys offered some or other manner of surgery, but their
arguments were scarcely convincing.

Perhaps some connection in your case will be found as well.

Wishing you better luck with the medical profession in the future.

oh dorothy thank you so much. that could be the reason for it in my arms,
but the numbness and tingling in other parts I don't believe is caused by
the oa. I won't discount it though. and of course, the blue nail beds is
something entirely different, I'm sure. I'll keep you updated.

his office until this tues. so I have to just wait it out. am looking
forward to the bone density scan tomorrow to see if I also have
osteoporosis. probably do. take care dorothy.

Thank you so very much Moe. You are so sweet! I know, you're right,
tension is worse. Today is a bit better. I've emailed my GP to try to get
an appt. asap, but he won't be back in the office until this Tues. We'll
see what happens. Two people already have told me it sounds like I *may*
have peripheral neuropathy. One was from a nice lady here at this group and
the other was my brother who was reading a magazine about it. It looks like
I have almost all the symptoms for it, but who knows. I am just so
disgusted with this healthcare system here and the incompetent doctors here
also. So is Don, my husband. Well, that's enough complaining for two days
now. :-) Thank you again. I will try my best to calm down. It does feel
better to vent some. Please take care of yourself too.

Gentle hugs,

Diane

Blue nail beds deserve professional review as soon as possible.
Could be lots of things. Some are nasty too.

Trust me, any type of arthritis in the neck/spine can give numbness,
tingling, and affect a whole lot more than just the spine/neck.

You have to remember that all the nerves in the body run through our
spinal column, so if there is inflammation, swelling, etc in the
spine/neck, it really can play havoc on just about any part of the body.

The thing with arthritis, is that you never are fully without pain and
there will be flare ups and such from time to time that can leave you
fairly miserable. We all have different things that seem to help when
we are in a flare up.

For some, ice helps, for others, heat helps. Some do better with rest,
while others do better with moving a bit. A warm shower can help
relieve the muscles a bit from being so tight.

Not a lot can help with the numbness and tingling unfortunately.

We always tend to want immediate relief, and sadly, with arthritis there
often isn't any immediate relief. You learn as you go what things
trigger flare ups and what things seem to help flare ups for you. It's
such an individual thing often times.

As far as peripheral neuropathy, that is a nasty thing to have and no
real treatments at all that work consistantly.

Hope your pain eases, Diane, and tomorrow brings a better day.

Thank you dorothy. believe me, I know! my husband, don, and I searched and
found peripheral neuropathy and I also have many of those symptoms. my gp
won't be back until this tues. I've sent two emails to his recep requesting
an appt. with him ASAP. maybe I'll hear something next week from him. went
to pdoc today. he's so nice. gave me a script for pain med, then I'll see
him in 10 days. I'll also be seeing my internist on june 5th for test
results and will be telling him also about the blue nail beds. if anything
should get worse, we will call 911. the ambulance is right down the street
from where we live. if people think that it's easy living in canada because
their healthcare system, OHIP, pays for most of the healthcare, they're
wrong because there's a lot they won't pay for, won't do for you, etc. it
has also been very hard living here in windsor because we are so close to
michigan. the healthcare people and/or government consider this town the
armpit of canada, which is what don told me. i'm a us and canadian citizen,
but us first. don is only a canadian citizen. just wanted to update you a
little bit. thanks again. please take care of yourself.

gentle hugs,

I do trust you, Donna. I can believe it.

You have to remember that all the nerves in the body run through our
spinal column, so if there is inflammation, swelling, etc in the
spine/neck, it really can play havoc on just about any part of the body.

I understand. I've had the tingling and numbness for quite awhile now. the
oa wasn't bothering me until a few days ago, I mean in the neck and back.

The thing with arthritis, is that you never are fully without pain and
there will be flare ups and such from time to time that can leave you
fairly miserable. We all have different things that seem to help when
we are in a flare up.

Yes, I understand that too and that's what is so hard about having it.

For some, ice helps, for others, heat helps. Some do better with rest,
while others do better with moving a bit. A warm shower can help
relieve the muscles a bit from being so tight.

the warm shower seems to help, but this morning I hurt so bad that it didn't
do much. it hurt when I washed my hair, etc. any lifting up of the arms or
bending down was soooo painful. I know you already know that. I also tried
the heating pad on my neck, but the pad is so large and my hands and arms
hurt so much that I couldn't hold it there. anyway, called my pdoc crying
and he was going to see me at 4:15, but then a patient cancelled and his
recep called us earlier to come in. he is sooooo sweet. he gave me a
script for a pain med. just ate and took it and we'll see what happens. I
wrote two emails to my GP's office requesting an appt. ASAP. he'll return
this tues. so I'll see what happens. I'll always keep you updated. :-)

Not a lot can help with the numbness and tingling unfortunately.

I know that too. that's why we think there is more to this than oa. there
has to be!

We always tend to want immediate relief, and sadly, with arthritis there
often isn't any immediate relief. You learn as you go what things
trigger flare ups and what things seem to help flare ups for you. It's
such an individual thing often times.

Yes, I get that too. it's hit or miss, sort of. remember I told you way
back that I suddenly out of the blue became intolerable to sugar, sugar
subs., gluten, and lactose? some times I get a trigger from eating one of
those, but I can't help it. I am so skinny and weak that I have to eat.
the store near us (we walk - no car) has had gluten-free bread and muffins,
but for the last two weeks or more, they didn't get them in stock so I had
no choice but to eat a regular bread sandwich and regular muffins. so maybe
that combo gave me a flare up too. I just don't know anymore. I need more
tests and I will get them. my new, young GP will see to it, I'm sure. :-)
my new internist may do the same thing.

As far as peripheral neuropathy, that is a nasty thing to have and no
real treatments at all that work consistantly.

Yes, I believe that also. especially here in canada. if I were back home,
there *might* be a chance there'd be a med for me to help, but not here.

Hope your pain eases, Diane, and tomorrow brings a better day.

thank you so much donna. you are so sweet and kind. today was just awful,
but at this very minute, it is not so bad. maybe the pain med is starting
to kick in. so far, I've been able to type, which is a good thing. take
care of yourself too.

gentle hugs,

diane
