Any one have an update on Duckie?
Last I heard she found out she was to be grandma again. She also had
pnemonia and ear infections. Is she doing any better? What is the lastest
news on her?

Hi sweetie. I have had two bouts of pneumonia this year but as of last
week lungs were clear. I went to Nashville during the antibiotic tail
end of the last bout and tried to deal with the fact that the state of
TENN in their stupidity has announced that they are closing the
institution where Spencer has lived off and on since he was 15. The
scramble is on to find suitable SAFE housing in the community. The place
that I have chosen says that Spencer is over qualified -- not retarded
enough -- but they are willing to try to see if they can get him into
their program. Someone just take me out back and shoot me.

Mother will be 91 at the end of Feb. and seemed a bit diminished to
me. Less than a week later they found her roaming the lobby in her
nightgown and didn't know where or who she was. Turned out to be a very
bad UTI but the hospital didn't keep her. So back to her apartment.
Things went downhill and during all this her phone was not working. The
damn thing hasn't worked well for 6 months. I should have handled that
while I was there but just didn't manage it. Anyway, sometime Thursday
night -- rumor is around 3 am she fell in the hallway of her apartment
and could not get to the pull cords or to a phone that was working. So
she lay there until her aide that comes on Friday arrived at 8am and
found her on the floor. Save for a headache she fared that fairly well.
Did manage to talk her into letting home instead senior care spend the
night for two nights running . They also came today to help her with
Spencer and clean up after he left so she wouldn't be totally worn out
by the visit. Some young college student she said was there. I had sent
a phone from Best Buy overnight and told her to get him to put it in
while he was there. Oh, she said -- she hadn't thought of that. Of
course not, you are sick and fell several days ago.....  Spent several
days worrying that I might have to pack her up and bring her to CA to
live with us. Woke one morning around 5am in a panic as I realized that
since I have to turn side ways to slither into our master bathroom here
that she probably would not be able to get her walker into it -- you
think. Those several days felt like a horse was sitting on my chest from
the anxiety. I think that a nursing home will  be out of the question
as she has no more money and I have been paying her rent for the last
year. We will have to figure out how to manage in this little house when
the time comes. At least, we are beginning to think of those things now
which will mean the decisions will have been made when the time comes. I
fair better when I have all my decisions made and don't have things
thrust on me -- like the Spencer thing. Although, I had saved some paper
work for several years from the institution that I just interviewed with
as I knew that sometime in the distance this might happen -- just didn't
expect it this soon.
They seem like a good fit and I liked the layout -- just wish I could be
sure they will work to make the language of their charter fit him too.

Think I am babbling and need to get some sleep.

I feel better about them both but have that good news bad news thing
going -- bad news is that I am the only one making the decisions about
both their lives and the good news is that I am the only one making the
decisions -- no siblings fighting over what is 'right or wrong'.

Feel free to pass things along to ASA -- frankly I think I could use the
prayer circle turned on for them both.

Tell Squirrley Jo that I am glad she asked.

So how are you Donna? Paku says hello.
